Let’s finally abolish the farce of “Homo economicus” and instead explore how to EVOLve our economy toward #sustainability and #InclusiveProsperity by understanding ACTUAL human nature!
Proud to have helped organize this series and excited for the growing field of #EVOLvingEcon!
Please join me for an "Essential Conversation" on my new book "Awaken: The Path to Purpose, Inner Peace & Healing" on June 7 at 10 AM ET, hosted by the Center for Purposeful Leadership.

The second cohort of the #ROC#FamilyBusiness Alliance is thriving!
Learned to make Instagram-worthy charcuterie boards while supporting a fellow #FamBiz leader turned entrepreneur’s new venture!
Now recruiting the 3rd cohort of rising family business leaders!
A busy life is not a symbol of status. It's a symptom of trying to do too much for too many people.
A full calendar brings a surplus of stress and a shortage of energy. Reflecting and relaxing should be top priorities.
Unscheduled time isn't wasted. It's invested in well-being.
When in Montana…a sleigh ride to a cabin in the woods for a prime rib dinner cooked by Buck the cowboy in a wood-fired stove…seemed on brand!
Cheers to another year with the #ROC#FamilyBusiness Alliance!

“Don’t manage people. Manage things, but lead people.”
This is the first of many shifts @StephenMRCovey says leaders must make to move from “Command & Control” to “Trust & Inspire.”

Balance rarely comes from increasing efficiency. It usually involves reducing responsibilities.
The more priorities we have, the harder they are to juggle. It's better to do a few things well than be overwhelmed by many.
A key to avoiding burnout is deciding what doesn't matter.
Studies show that passionate employees get more promotions, BUT ALSO that passion can blind managers to actual performance when making promotional decisions, AND WORSE, that passionate workers are more often asked to do extra work or miss time with family.

NYT piece confirming what I hear: hybrid is dominating for professionals. Hauling folks back 5 days a weeks is very unpopular, chilling productivity and raising quits. Fully remote is tough on mentoring, creativity and culture. So hybrid is winning out.

@MarkCCrowley I think a good question to find out the true culture of a company would be "Think of the last three people who were promoted in this company... How would you describe the leadership styles and values of these people?"
My free happiness class "The Science of Well-Being for Teens" is now available on YouTube! Yay! Over the next 6 weeks, we'll release new videos each week and Week 1 is available now. So check it out & please RT/share w/teens in your life:

Blaming and shaming doesn't stop people from making mistakes. It stops them from admitting mistakes.
If people can't share their blunders, they can't learn from them—and neither can the rest of us.
The best way to prevent errors is to make it safe for people to discuss them.
When we hire from the outside, we pay more to get less.
Despite costing more, external hires perform worse and quit more. Promoting from within fuels individual growth and collective success.
If there are never strong internal candidates, we've failed at leadership development.
After several wildly successful @JAofCUNY Entrepreneurial Youth Summits in #ROC, we’re expanding across upstate!
Today, students in #SYR will go from idea to business plan to pitch by the end of the school day!
Thanks to volunteer mentors from @BNYMellon@ExcellusBCBS & Giotto!
Do you know an outstanding volunteer who graciously gives their time to uplift the Greater Rochester community? Nominate them for the prestigious Jefferson Awards for Service. Nominations due February 5. https://t.co/CCIMZumWtF #ROC
Top 5 reasons for #burnout according to @Gallup survey:
-Unfair treatment at work
-Unmanageable workload
-Lack of role clarity
-Lack of communication and support from manager
-Unreasonable time pressure
Root causes NOT individual, but SYSTEMIC result of #leadership and #culture
True commitment to work-life balance is giving people permission to take other priorities as seriously as their jobs.
In burnout cultures, people are expected to drop everything for work. In healthy cultures, people are encouraged to protect time for family, health, and leisure.
