Tonight, @thomasdolphin has been elected as the new BMA Chair of Council. We offer him our congratulations and a warm welcome to the role.
Thank you to @DrPhilBanfield for his dedication to our members and the medical profession over the past three years.

"I can't offer a higher pay increase"
Please don't take us for fools. Every health sec before you said these words before magically making a better offer later.
I posted my YES vote for IA today before starting my shift because we deserve better. The country deserves better.
I just want to put it on record that I had a clinic today which wasn't overbooked. I had enough time for all of the patients. No one waited. It was lovely.
I bet all the money in my pockets against all the money in your pockets, that Tim would want a doctor for him or one of his loved ones who had a serious health condition / needed medical attention.
Whatever he may say online, deep down I know it, you know it and he knows it. 🤷🏻♂️
Hi Shaun, I know you don't write the headlines, and Ive raised these issues before, but does the deadline reflect a quote from the two interviewed people? Specifically did they say "We'll bring the NHS to a standstill"? That doesn't seem to be reflected in the article which appears to lower the journalistic integrity of the piece if its not an actual quote but implies that it is
Doctors are being forced to ballot for strikes after @wesstreeting refused their pleas to negotiate over pay, @BMAResidents leaders tell The Sunday Times:
https://t.co/CAVRsrrSkE
"I have turned up to work today, we’re short-staffed, and we’re trying to scramble to see how we can make things work for the babies on the neonatal unit where I am today. That is not an uncommon occurrence" - @Melissa_S_Ryan
Misleading headlines, the disrespect of calling resident doctors 'junior' after I directly and specifically asked @ShaunLintern to refer to us by our proper title.
Once again, no one is surprised.
This is the level of journalism we have come to expect.
Pitiful.
Front page of the @thetimes@ShaunLintern except the headline is COMPLETELY fabricated. As confirmed by both of the interviewees @RossNieuwoudt@Melissa_S_Ryan (& admitted by @ShaunLintern) they (nor @TheBMA) did NOT threaten to "bring the NHS to a standstill".
RT if you agree this is disgracefully poor journalism
Drs are still paying the price 17 years later. ‘Taxpayers sell NatWest at £10B loss’. We’re still funding Austerity 1.0 while being asked to pay for Austerity 2.0 https://t.co/nEfOUFPpUz
@DLGDen Den @DLGDen you are so correct @BMAResidents@BMA_James_Steen@trentconsultant@HCSANews Not a resident doctor but I know the results my generations reluctance to strike. Jam tomorrow that never came / 29% salary plummet / yes that is why we are here today. Do better vote yes 👍
Resident doctors vote YES to strike action to let the government know you are not willing to settle for a derisory pay offer on the back of significant pay erosion. Wes streeting said pay restoration is a journey - time to take the next step.
Excellent advice from @wesstreeting, in opposition & to give credit where due, he did pull out the stops to bring last dispute to a speedy resolution. But then he promised a “journey”
What I’ve seen so far on the table ISNT a journey. Get round the table & get this resolved
If you asked yourself why 'the BMA' let pay fall so far behind look at this graph. Despite promises of pay restoration being a journey the train's in reverse. We are *all* responsible for standing together to restore pay pension value for all. Webinars to follow, attend one!
Fully qualified doctors are earning just £17/hr.
That’s after a gruelling 5-6 year medical degree, £100,000 of debt, and 48-hour working weeks on the frontline of the NHS.
They’re asking for £22/hr. Still below market rate. Still fair.
But @wesstreeting can’t even be bothered to come to the table and meaningfully negotiate.
In 7 days, doctors will begin voting on strike action. If the Government won’t listen, we’ll make them.
Doctors, update your home address and workplace details now to get your postal ballot:

We will not accept another real-terms pay cut. Doctors are done being exploited.
A 4% pay uplift, less than current inflation, is an insult to doctors in England. This Government has shown it simply doesn’t value doctors.
“The DDRB has failed doctors. If this is the best they can do, government needs to think again.” says @DrPhilBanfield
This ‘award’ pushes #PayRestoration even further out of reach, and doctors even further from the NHS. No one wants a return to scenes of doctors on picket lines but today’s actions have sadly made this look far more likely.
