Significant flooding hit Portugal’s Algarve region yesterday, with heavy rain drenching Faro and Tavira.
Homes and shops were affected, and dozens of incidents were reported across the area.
Good afternoon.
Onshore wind farms currently occupy around 0.02% of the U.K.
To place that in context, @JeremyClarkson’s farm occupies around 10% of the total area of ALL onshore wind turbines in the U.K.
Many of these turbines are also keeping British farmers in business.
This NASA visualization shows the CO2 emitted into the earth's atmosphere + clarifies who is responsible for the climate crisis: we, the Global North.

What have they got in common?
Their funders - a small clique of American billionaires. 💰
It sounds like a conspiracy theory - but it’s true. 🧵
Threads like this will disappear. There are interlocking themes, all revolving around money and power.
It is in the interest of those with money and power that threads like this are not widely spread.
Even world expert @rahmstorf was shocked to see how the odds have shortened.
Here he explains a little about what #AMOC is and just how profoundly it will change the world if it collapses. https://t.co/xQZvk1c2gh
It is a game of risk.

What does #JPMorgan think about #ClimateRisk?
It sees a constant decline in GDP? 30% anyone? 50%?
Are economists still working on #Nordhaus's ideas because it shows them what the want to see?
My oh my, what could possible go wrong? @ProfSteveKeen
In 1985, Carl Sagan told Congress that continuing to burn fossil fuels will increase global temperature, cause climate change, melt glaciers and ice sheets, and cause sea level rise. Imagine if we had listened to him them.

There are two extraordinary and existential threats, both of which should provoke action:

Yet they appear to be unreported. Why not?

I’m surprised what’s happened in Switzerland isn’t a bigger story.
An entire town wiped off the map by a glacier collapsing, likely as a direct result of our warming climate.
This is like something out of a disaster movie.
Global average temperature is expected to rise to almost 2C above preindustrial in the next five years, according to the WMO, with falls in crop yields and more than a third of the world’s population being exposed to extreme heat.
People, we are in danger.
The village of Blatten in Switzerland is partly buried by the collapse of a glacier which melted because our greenhouse gas emissions warmed the climate.
Another reminder that not investing enough today to reduce emissions means far greater costs for society in the long term.
Very concerning to hear @wesstreeting listing ‘what people care about’ on #R4Today with not a single mention of the climate & nature emergency.
What chance do we have of rising to this existential challenge if our politicians don’t have the courage to even mention it?
