Welcome to Attacking Football World Cup countdown!
Across the next 7 days we will pick one goal across the last seven tournaments as we get closer to the opening match between Mexico and South Africa
Now, enjoy Dennis Bergkamp greatness from 1998! 😍
Everyone’s second team at Mexico 86 became Denmark.
The iconic kit, the classy players, and their style of play were a joy to watch.
Their opening match of the tournament was against Scotland on 04/06/86.
Elkjær scored the only goal in the 58th minute after another typically flowing Danish move.
Scotland, for their part, were also wearing an all-time great kit!

John Barnes's #Euro92 hopes ended after two minutes in England's last friendly, rupturing his achilles tendon against Finland
Gary Stevens would also suffer a stress fracture in the same match
It wouldn't get any better for England

One abiding memory of mine from Mexico 86 was the quality and variety of goals.
Every team seemed to have someone who could ping it in from an improbable angle with their traction engine of a foot.
On 02/06/1986, it was the turn of the USSR. Fancied as dark horses, they made light work of Hungary in their opening match, winning 6–0.
The second goal, from Aleinikov, was an all-time classic — the sort of strike that seemed commonplace in Mexico that summer.
