Australia came to India in 2001 with 15 consecutive Test wins. Steve Waugh called India the 'final frontier' of their test glory.

They started in that manner and pummeled India in the 1st test in Mumbai inside three days. The 2nd test at Eden Gardens began similarly, with Australia scoring 445 and India bundled out for just 171. Laxman scored a free-flowing 59 while batting at number 6. Ganguly noticed that and decided to promote him to number 3 in the second innings.

Laxman went on to score a mammoth 281, considered one of the greatest innings of all time, and turned the game upside down. India became only the second country to win a Test match after following on, shocking Australia to the core. They went on to lose the third test and the series as well.
