@stekkerauto It is not so much vertical integration, although that helps. It is more the talent of the engineers involved and Tesla's culture of innovation. Legacy auto is just not good with change and has bloated decision making.
@KristopherWasi2@jxrbot@stekkerauto Plus, don't be confused by the "heat" in heat pump. It can be for both heating and cooling. The key is the tech relies on latent, rather than sensible heat.
@ThatTony2@wholemars Good point. If co. named "Elon," likely phonetic trans. vs. transliteration (but some sounds R difficult to pronounce in other languages). And list of culturally inept marketing is long: Chevy NoVa = don't go, Audi etron = turd, inappropriate green in Middle East.
@Filanwizard@A_Koster74@CryptoHulkemist@engineers_feed Ya, the story of both MS & Apple "stealing" the GUI (windows, etc.) and MOUSE, is less about who developed the ideas than the shortsightedness of established executives. This is why legacy auto couldn't accept that EVs are the future. It didn't fit existing paradigms.
@Ran110010011 @MichaelRSimpso@engineers_feed I'm from Canada, as well, and built large, steel framed, cultured stone clad buildings, with cornices, largely in place of parapets. Not everything above a roofline is a parapet.
@Ran110010011 @MichaelRSimpso@engineers_feed So, you installed a 9" curb, not a parapet. Also, you don't note the building cladding coming up the face of the "parapet," which is another defining characteristic or a parapet. Lastly, they must have capped this curb with flashing, with a drip edge. Also, not mentioned.
@Ran110010011 @MichaelRSimpso@engineers_feed "It acts as a safety wall for people using the roof." One purpose listed, without noting the more important modern purposes. It's not just a description, or quibbling over words...it is a statement of fact that is largely incorrect.
@SchertlerN@rospkos_07@alex_avoigt An anecdotal coincidence doesn't = a statistically significant correlation, let alone causation.
"Fake news" like JAMA? https://t.co/0OnQeJa4f9
"Compared with the unvaccinated reference group, we found no increased risk of appendicitis after mRNA COVID-19 vaccination..."
@Ran110010011 @MichaelRSimpso@engineers_feed So, we agree a drip edge does not = a parapet? Also, the definition you provided confirms it is a dwarf wall or heavy rail. Doesn't sound like a 9" curb, does it?
Lastly, to really use arch. terms correctly, if it is a heavy rail, it is better describes as a balustrade.
@Ran110010011 @MichaelRSimpso@engineers_feed 2/2 Do you know what a cricket or an armored parapet is? A few inch bump at the perimeter of a flat roof is no parapet.
Do you know the purpose of a roof drain vs. a scupper? Architects detail stuff wrong, all the time. EPDM vs. TPO?
@Ran110010011 @MichaelRSimpso@engineers_feed 1/2 For WoE to say in modern arch. a parapet's primary purpose is fall protection, is just wrong. Why not say its primary purpose is for pour hot tar over the edge while dodging trebuchet blasts?
A drip edge as low as 1". Sure but that's why it is a drip edge & not a parapet.
@whatsthenews18 @wholemars You do know Waymo and Cruise get into accidents, that are their fault, right? Also, there is this thing called insurance.
