@rmwhit23@MatNuclear So what has mamdani done that makes him self absorbed? I don't think it was mamdani that tried to put himself on a $250 bill.
And are you sure socialists and the communists are the same?
They have different definitions after all
@MrTemple803@MxSassafras@MartinLogicing You were conflating moral claims with just regular truth claims and I used a math example to show the difference. Bad math is not inherently immoral. Are you immoral if you get one question wrong on a math test?
@MrTemple803@MxSassafras@MartinLogicing No that wouldn't be immoral, that would be bad math because you're not making a moral claim.
If you said lying about the answer to 2+2 is bad, that would then be a moral claim because you're claiming a certain action, lying, is bad.
@MrTemple803@MxSassafras@MartinLogicing Matter in general behaves chaotically and random. Us having a deliberate conversation wouldn't be that of course but cancer cells in the body would be an example. Cells split and form new cells and cancer is simply a mutation during cell division that is random.
@MrTemple803@MxSassafras@MartinLogicing Absolute would be a better word. And no morals are not inherently ingrained in us. They are dependent on our ability to ration and have empathy for others which human beings have developed over millions of years.
@MrTemple803@MxSassafras@MartinLogicing Objectively would be the wrong word. Objectively is not synonymous with always. That's our subjective opinion that hurting kids is always bad based on the goal of human flourishing and our attitudes towards the most vulnerable. It would be normative not to hurt children for fun.
@MrTemple803@MxSassafras@MartinLogicing No. A moral claim is saying "it's bad to steal from old people". Stating a general fact about the nature of morality is not a moral claim because there's no normativity.
Is 2+2=4 a moral claim of addition or just a general fact of addition?
@MrTemple803@MxSassafras@MartinLogicing The sun isn't a star? Seriously?? That's kindergarten bro. Do you think every claim about anything is a moral claim as well?
@MrTemple803@MxSassafras@MartinLogicing Objective truths and objective moral truths are two different things. Is it objectively morally true that the sun is a star or is it objectively true the sun is a star?
@MrTemple803@MxSassafras@MartinLogicing It's a truth claim not a morality claim, that is universal as long as there are people with conscious brains to judge actions as either good or bad.
