NFL Week 12 Here’s What I’m Looking At

- Teams on Bye: Bills, Bengals, Falcons, Jets, Jaguars, Saints

- No Brock Purdy, Nick Bosa or Charvarius Ward for the desperate 49ers against Green Bay.

- I’m pretty surprised Brandon Allen is starting over Josh Dobbs for the 49ers. It would have been genuinely interesting to see what Dobbs would do with this offense.

- It would not surprise me if Christian McCaffrey and Deebo Samuel combine for an outrageous share of the total touches in this contest.

- Green Bay was better last year than they’ve been this year, yet they are 7-3 with two one score losses.

- It would be good to see Jordan Love play a clean game against a beat-up 49ers pass defense.

- The Chiefs were puttering for weeks until their loss in Buffalo last week. Kansas City has a line play advantage, on both sides of the ball, against Carolina and its hard to see Panthers pass catchers creating much margin in that matchup.

- This seems like a get Patrick Mahomes going game right from the jump.

- I’m very curious to see how Micah Parsons is deployed against Jayden Daniels, especially considering how run centric Washington is.

- Dallas is down Zack Martin and Trevon Diggs.

- I’d like to think the Colts can be dangerous against flying a bit too high Detroit, but I have very little confidence in Gus Bradley.

- Best case scenario for the Colts offense is Indy takes a similar approach with Anthony Richardson as Steichen did with Jalen Hurts against the Lions back on opening day in 2022. Hurts had 17 carries in that game.

- The Texans are playing their second game in a row with a pass rush advantage against a bottom tier team in the Titans.

- Similar to Green Bay, Houston is a somewhat underwhelming 7-4 yet they have a very realistic path to going on a run if they start trending up.

- Good teams win decisively at home against teams like Tennessee late in the year.

- Motivation and culture are hard to quantify, yet are obvious factors in the human condition. The Giants have been a mess this week and the Buccaneers still have a shot to make the postseason given their soft schedule to close out the year.

- It’s hard to watch Tommy DeVito starts, but he’s a more decisive decision maker than Daniel Jones.

- It would be nice to see Miami play a really high-end game on offense, otherwise I could see Drake Maye keeping this relatively close.

- How Thomas Brown and Caleb Williams, behind a bad offensive line, handle Brian Flores pressure looks will decide the game in Chicago.

- The last time the Bears had a heartbreaking, final moments loss they went in the tank for two weeks. If their defense doesn’t follow that pattern against Minnesota, Chicago has the raw materials to shut down the Vikings.

- Bo Nix has played well the last few weeks, but his stat line was inflated last week by a lot of yac off screens/ short passes. This is another game where Nix can show some ceiling.

- Even if Nix doesn’t, Denver’s defense can win this game on their own.

- To this point in the year, no one has done more with less than Sean Payton.

- In general, if the Raiders had anything in the tank I’d think they’d be very live to win here. But ultimately I view Vegas as a truly bad team headed for a new coach with a couple high end players, most notably Maxx Crosby and Brock Bowers.

- The Seahawks have a better roster than the Cardinals, but they are inconsistent and I’d take Kyler Murray over Geno Smith without a second thought. Seattle is also coming off an emotional win while Arizona is coming off a bye.

- That said, I’d also suggest Seattle needs the win more here, as Arizona has a much softer schedule from here on out.

- Much like the Lions, the Eagles have one of the league’s best rosters but they’ve benefited from playing very few high caliber teams. I’d frame the Rams as more of a middle of the pack team.

- The Rams have a pretty brutal schedule over the next four weeks: vs. Phi, at NO, vs. Buf, at SF (TNF).

- The Chargers best wins this season have come against Denver and Cincinnati, where they’ve lost to the Steelers, Chiefs and Cardinals. Baltimore, who is coming off a loss, is their biggest test since Week 4 against Kansas City.

- Similar to my curiosity in how Dallas deploys Micah Parsons, I’m curious to see what the Chargers do with Derwin James against the Ravens.
