@Ed_Miliband It’s actually quite clever. The energy is a side hustle. The real money comes from the freeport and port. While the clean power is great for the planet, the government and port operators "monetize" the project through the real estate and the tax ecosystem… oh and our bills.
@Ed_Miliband Essentially, these jobs shift the local workforce from traditional heavy industry to high-tech green manufacturing and maritime logistics.
@Imogenlemon02 Drilling more gas will reduce the frequency of price fluctuations and lower bills. The extra tax revenue could fund renewable subsidies or reduce fuel duty. Since the gas we produce comes to the UK, it enhances our energy security. Our gas is also cheaper than gas in the EU.
@Ed_Miliband The general public is being forced to bear the cost. Now burdened by escalating taxes, a rising cost of living and energy, they’re having to stretch further to buy solar panels batteries and electric boilers in the blind hope it will lower their bills. You are having a laugh.
@UniofOxford Go back to school kids. UK North Sea gas is piped ashore and used in our energy infrastructure generating much more electricity than renewables. It’s is cheaper than imported LNG.
@DaleVince Big difference between what happens with North Sea oil and North Sea gas. Do you’re own homework but keep in mind UK import all its gas in LNG form from overseas. If only we had our own gas supply that would negate that need …
@pressjournal North Sea Oil, yes minimal impact on bills North Sea Gas however gets pumped straight to the UK for use in our energy infrastructure and saves on import and regasification of Middle East LNG.
@GBNEWS North Sea Oil is sent overseas to be refined and is at the mercy of market prices… so there is some truth here in that it would have minimal impact on bills. North Sea gas however, gets pumped right into the UK, saves money immediately on the import are regasification of LNG.
@AlistairHaimes Using gas from UK North Sea would help secure supply, however the gas would still be sold to us at market rate. This is the key difference between UK and Norway. We sold all our hydrocarbon blocks to overseas companies years ago therefore prices are determined by global market.
@Ed_Miliband This is crazy. The UK's offshore hydrocarbons need to remain part of the energy mix while we build the appropriate renewable energy infrastructure. You are losing the people.
@JamesMelville Bollocks. It snows in Aberdeenshire every year. Some years are worse than others. Granted this year has been a bad snowfall but it was very similar in 2010 and 2014. It will be all melted next week.
@DesGal101@theiaincameron It was an Aberdonian who was contracted to building Tyneside docks. He brought with him Aberdonian labourers. Said to the origin behind the geordie accent. Dr Charles Mitchell.
