@500yoChristian@philvischer You're not as concerned w/Biblical ethics as you are invested in worldly political/economic ideologies; that's not a lens forming Christian worldview. You borrow terminology from secular philosophy ("marxist!") as a "gotcha" to reframe Christian moral treatment of image bearers.
@500yoChristian@philvischer The question was answered pretty clearly I thought. We could word it differently and say, "no, she was seeking asylum, which is legally protected". Assuming your username is intended to reflect sincerely self-identifying as a Christian, that answer will satisfy you, Biblically.
It's imperative that we resist cynicism. Faithful followers of Jesus ARE out there, in humble, ordinary, local churches. And together, we can help build the kind of communities we once longed to find.

Just finished Ken Burns' 6-hour doc "The US and the Holocaust." Can't think of another doc that reduced me to tears like that.
A painful reminder of what humans are capable of when we decide other groups of people are less than human.
I'm shook.
This is completely deranged rhetoric. If you heard this kind of ranting from a family member who possessed no power at all, you'd be worried about them. From the president, it's horrifying. This is obvious 25th Amendment territory, but people are so desensitized that they can't see it.
Gen. Mark Milley: We are unique among the world's militaries. We don't take an oath to a king or a queen, or to a tyrant, or a dictator, and we don't take an oath to a wannabe dictator. We don't take an oath to an individual. We take an oath to the Constitution. It is that document that all of us in uniform swear to protect and defend against all enemies, foreign and domestic. We will never turn our back on the Constitution. That is our North Star.
This is beyond bizarre. A sitting VP of the USA attacking our close allies in Europe (you know, those bureaucrats in Brussels!) in a stump speech for a self-described illiberal politician that has the support of Putin. The Republican Party I grew up with would cringe at any American politician doing this, let alone a Republican!
Truly remarkable that a guy who few heard of a year ago, and never sought this, has taken on the role of not just the moral voice one ought to expect of the papacy but a national icon to whom Americans turn their lonely eyes.
Rhetoric calling for war crimes is a moral horror, under any circumstances. Using the Bible to try to justify targeting civilian populations makes it even worse. It comes from, and leads to, hell.
