Sylvanus Olympio was shot on January 13, 1963. He was two days away from pulling Togo out of the CFA franc, when the imperialists struck.
The story that gets told is simple. A group of Togolese soldiers, led by Sergeant Étienne Eyadéma, stormed the presidential residence in Lomé. Olympio fled, hid in a car outside the US embassy, and was found and shot at the gate. Eyadéma admitted it: "He could not stay there. There would have been demonstrations. He would not move. I shot him" .
That is the version that fits the official record. It is also incomplete.
Olympio was not killed over a military pay dispute, though that is the trigger the soldiers used. He was killed because he was about to sign Togo's withdrawal from the CFA franc zone and launch a national currency backed by the Deutsche Mark. He had already founded the Banque Centrale du Togo in 1962. The agreement was days from being signed .
France had reasons to want him gone. De Gaulle's Africa advisor, Jacques Foccart, said it plainly after Olympio's death: "Sylvanus Olympio was not one of our friends" . The French ambassador in Lomé knew the coup plotters personally. They were former French army soldiers. France opposed an independent investigation into the assassination .
After Olympio was killed, his brother-in-law Nicolas Grunitzky was installed as president. He immediately abandoned the national currency plan and signed cooperation agreements reaffirming Togo's use of the CFA franc. The currency Olympio died trying to leave is still in use today .
The scholarship is careful. Historians like Skinner and Glasman argue the coup was rooted in the discontent of ex-French soldiers Olympio refused to integrate into Togo's tiny army. The monetary story is "an underlying factor," not the single bullet . But the timing is hard to ignore. Olympio was killed while negotiating monetary independence. The negotiations ended with his death. Togo stayed in the franc zone.
His brother-in-law took power. The man who pulled the trigger, Eyadéma, ruled Togo for 38 years after overthrowing Grunitzky in 1967.
Olympio's chair at the founding of the OAU in May 1963 was left empty. It was meant to be a warning. It became a template .
AFRICAN HUNGER IS MAN-MADE
Amanda Parris sat down with Nana Odongo for a sharp, necessary conversation about Black food sovereignty. At its core was a simple but uncomfortable truth: hunger in Africa is not natural; it is engineered.
Africa holds roughly 60% of the world’s uncultivated arable land, according to the UN; yet the continent remains a net food importer, spending tens of billions of dollars each year importing food it could grow itself.
Nana explains why: African agriculture is still structured around export, not nourishment. Land, labour, and water go to cut flowers, tea, coffee, cocoa, and fresh produce for Europe and global markets, while local populations are left with scraps, lower-grade products, or higher prices.
Kenya exports premium tea and flowers while domestic food insecurity persists. Ghana is one of the world’s largest cocoa producers, yet processes less than a fraction of its cocoa into chocolate. Most of the value is added in Europe, where countries like Switzerland dominate global chocolate profits without growing a single cocoa bean.
Analysts don’t view this as an accident; it is neocolonialism in practice. Political independence did not come with economic or food sovereignty. The colonial logic remains intact; Africa produces, others consume and profit. As Nana puts it, you cannot talk about independence without first talking about the right to feed yourself.
Food security is power. Data shows that until African states prioritise feeding their own people over global markets, the myth of scarcity will continue to mask a system built on extraction, dependency, and unequal exchange.
Marriages survived because men had the heart to endure women.
It lasted for generations because of MEN. Because of our emotional intelligence and our compassion for our wives.
Not because women were good partners. Because men learned to overlook a lot of stupid shit women do just to let peace reign.
Let's be real, women are NOT easy to live with.
They are not romantic. Their whole idea of romance is RECEIVING. What he bought for me, where he took me, what he did for me. Never what they give.
They are not funny. They are overly sensitive, they hate accountability, they hate saying sorry, they hate initiating sex with their own husbands, and they are controlling as hell. Stubborn and rebellious.
And that domestic violence you hear about in marriages? Most of it is STARTED by the wife. Pushing, slapping, throwing things, talking reckless, provoking until the man reacts. Then she wants to play victim.
Look at any relationship that doesn't have a man in it,it doesn't work.
Lesbians? Highest divorce rate. Highest abuse rate. Because there is no man there to tolerate their violence and their emotions. Two women together can't handle each other.
Female friendships? Even worse. Pure gossip, backbiting, jealousy, cutting each other off over the most childish things.
They will have 10 female friends by 2022. By 2026, only 2 are left. She has fought with ALL of them. Every single one is now an enemy.
But men are the problem.
French Embassy To Train Young Influencers in Ghana: The Spearhead Reacts
France's ambassador to Ghana has put out an open invitation to Ghanaian bloggers, social media influencers, content creators and journalists to take part in what amounts to the most brazen attempt yet to directly interfere with an African country's information space.
Unsurprisingly, not many Ghanaians seem to grasp the full ugliness of what is unfolding. Senior Reporter @Big_Mck reacts to the latest open violation of Ghana's sovereignty.
Go and entirely f*ck yourself, parasite. And no matter what your bosses have filled your head with, my continent will show you and your entire bloodline a very different story before the middle of this century runs out.
That is a promise.
Basic as this looks, Nigeria for example, is completely dependent on foreign refrigeration technology.
These are some of the basic technologies that must be mastered for any kind of meaningful sovereignty to be possible.
Long live the Sahelians. Hope us coastals wake up soon...
And if as a single lady, you're above 25 and in a serious relationship and still cheating, you don't have sense.
If your relationship is not serious, I can understand.
But where every detail is pointing towards the man being serious with you, and you're still busy fucking around, you're stupid.
You should have abandoned that lifestyle when you were younger.
If you're 28, 29, 30, 31, and your man is still catching you in infidelity, then you are not ready to become a wife.
If you want to pretend that you don't know, let me tell you:
The biggest threat to your being married is infidelity on your part.
Once a man can trust you to be faithful, it'll be hard for him not to choose you as his wife.
It doesn't matter if he didn't meet you as a virgin.
And certainly, it doesn't matter the body counts that you accumulated from failed relationships.
You can be jobless, and if a man feels comfortable that you're a faithful woman that he can trust, he doesn't mind marrying you.
And you may get far better treatment from him, as opposed to wives that are even bringing in money.
AJD.
Please preach the gospel you were called to preach. But stop using the pulpit to rewrite history.
You told your congregation that England's civilization began with the message of the cross, and that America got its buildings and infrastructure from its revivals.
Here is what you left out.
England had been Christian for more than a thousand years before its industrial boom. Ethiopia was Christian centuries before England. Faith alone does not explain the wealth. One can even argue that it had little to zero role in it.
In 1860, cotton made up more than 60% of American exports. Four million enslaved people picked it. On paper, those people were worth more than all the North's railroads and factories combined.
When Britain abolished slavery in 1833, it paid £20 million in compensation. The money went to the slave owners, not the enslaved, and it was about 40% of government spending that year. Britain only finished paying off the loan in 2015.
And the revivals? In 1845, Southern Baptists broke away from northern Baptists over slavery. Their own convention apologized for it 150 years later.
12.5 million Africans were forced onto slave ships. Nearly 2 million died before they reached land. They had names. Their blood is in those buildings.
People trust you. When you get history wrong from the pulpit, they go home believing it.
Teaching the truth takes nothing away from the gospel. But you cannot stand on the graves of millions and give all the credit to revival.
Do better.
Nigeria was under sanctions during Abacha's regime... Much like Iran is today.
The "loot" they "recovered" are your foreign reserves that his government had to move through unconventional means.
It's funny how we never hear of IBB's loot. And how we will never here of Bola Tinubu loot despite him robbing us blind.
they demonized Thomas sankara but loved blaise compore .
they demonized Patrice lumumba but loved mobutu sese seko .
Now they love Tinubu. Ruto . Ouattara. Tshisekedi while demonizing Traore. Tiani . Goita
We see the pattern
The body of Christ in Nigeria is one and will not tolerate any attack on the faith, except when it comes to attacking Odumeje and labelling him a false prophet, or going after Abel Damina and calling him a heretic, because neither of them promotes broad daylight robbery in the name of tithes and seeds.
Not that I fancy Odumeje or Damina, I mean, throw all of them way, but you see the other ones, na criminals them be.
Send this to them.
Kudirat Abiola was literally driving to an Official appointment at the Canadian High Commission the morning she was Assassinated, she was actively leaking critical national information to the US and helping them build their economic sanction profile against Abacha’s government
But what did it in for me was when I read that she single handedly shutdown the Oil Economy by bankrolling and sustaining the 12 month oil workers strike, Crippling the entire Nation’s Source of revenue I instantly knew this shit was all made up
I genuinely apologize for the delay in the report because apparently the scope of our investigation is starting to cut across Ghana too where they practically used the Accra Embassy as an Espionage Hub and were caught Red handed trying to assassinate JJ Rawlings and destabilize Ghana just a few years before they destabilized and regime changed Abacha
If Abacha was really a thief like they say,
Why not behave like the rest and shake their hands and live off the long life like the one that cannot explain how 12 billion dollars of gulf surge money disappeared.
If he was so bad, why attempt to put the education in order
Why attempt to nationalize oil, why attempt to build roads.
Is it not better for to just steal and go.
Is it not better to take his share and go and buy house in London or new York like his mates did.
If he was so bad, why did he vehemently fight the structural adjustment program that eventually led to our collapse
If he was so bad, why fix port security and congestion. I mean the most honest politician in this country Peter obi worked with this man ooo
If he was so bad, so terrible, why did he attempt to set up our nuclear program
If he was so bad, why attempt to make Nigeria sovereign
His mates were buying houses abroad, stealing funds and all and enjoying old age
You terrible people cannot see the handwriting on the wall because of stomach infrastructure
All the things your politicians have successfully stolen and destroyed or refused to maintain were all built by Abacha
Ungrateful lots
Anyways Watz my own, make e reach my turn. You complain- heaven baby straight, you no gree join development- heaven baby
You follow foreign intelligence Dey do sabotage, whole bloodline heaven baby
Wake up
Nigeria is 500x worse than he left it , but are you people complaining, no,because you have food to eat.
Some of your Pastors openly commit treason on the pulpit, and it’s only in Africa that this is allowed to happen.

Despite having some of the planet's biggest natural gas reserves and exporting a lot of gas, Nigerians pay some of the world's highest gas prices - and those prices will soon get even higher.
