@chris_harrod There has been some suggestion that C.lavaretus colonised through Hibernia given likely timing of colonisation and its distribution. I think the difficulty is whether the supposed brackish conditions would have been habitable for such species.

@chris_harrod Yes I discuss Lough Hibernia a little in an older paper of mine (https://t.co/bCR22C92qN). I think it is possible it existed, with a known land bridge damming it from the south and the retreating ice sheet to the north with the land bridge eventually flooding.
@chris_harrod Hi Chris, It's a good question. My presumption would be that the species were in different glacial refugia with pollan in refugia somewhere off the west coast of Ireland given all its extant populations are broadly in the same area of the island. Would be interesting to explore!

Great to see this paper out - Ecosystem size strongly predicts the potential for trophic specialization and presence of sympatric divergent ecotypes in Arctic charr.
Using 64 populations of Arctic charr in #Scotland, the drivers of its diversity were investigated, finding ecosystem size predicted genetic & phenotypic diversity and highlighting the role of #Ecological opportunity in #AdaptiveRadiation!
