Behavioural Marine Ecologist & Doctoral candidate @UniofExeter. PI @biminisharklab. Proud sister of a C6 incomplete quadriplegic. Here for a nerdy good time
Half way through the Azores field course for 3rd yr undergraduates @uni_exe_cec. It’s been awesome so far, with plenty of learning and fun and sometimes even at the same time. Here we’re in pursuit of sperm whales which have a special history with the islands and the inhabitants.
Thank you to my collaborators and the organizers of @TheFSBI 2023 Symposium.

🌍 Just published: Our work from the 2023 FSBI Symposium dives into the challenges of predicting fish distributions in a changing climate.
Find it here: https://t.co/wffZKYUBUr
🔍 We identified 25 critical questions across five key themes, to guide future research and management.
🐟 As climate change reshapes marine and aquatic environments, our findings highlight the urgent need for coordinated efforts to protect fish populations.
In a 🚨 new paper 🚨 we introduce a habitat selection framework for marine tracking data and establish shark behaviour as an indicator of habitat quality and area for protection. https://t.co/76bVCazjOt Huge thanks to my co-authors and @BiminiSharkLab!
Our new paper is out as an early release! We document #Africanpenguins feeding on fish amongst jellyfish tentacles 🐧🐟🪼

Always love a bit of shark #scicomm & @SharkBytes1994 is some of the best & most informative out there. Massively enjoyed recent video on the Lemon shark featuring @marinemollyk's fascinating work. Check it out; & keep up your great work @KjParton! 🦈

Jaws, Sharknado and Deep Blue Sea have painted a scary picture of sharks that they are still stuck with today🦈
@UniExeCornwall Marine Scientist Molly Kressler is hoping to change misconceptions around these creatures 👩🔬

Going to see #Meg2TheTrench this weekend? Me too!
But before you do, check out my new article in @ConversationUK where I talk about #megalodon ecology, the film's creative liberties with it, and the kinds of future shark films I'd like to see. https://t.co/oW3VRsEIT0 🦈
Introducing 2023's @Buckland_F honorary professor, Baukje de Roos @aberdeenuni as she describes "Fish as food - how much do we have, what do we eat and what should we be eating?" @fsbi2023 @TheFSBI@CefasGovUK@Uni_of_Essex
Impressive talk by @marinemollyk on shark habitat associations in Bimini, Bahamas, showing they aggregate near mangrove forest preferentially, followed by sea grass. Molly used complex modelling techniques and makes her code publicly available on her github! #FSBI2023
Brilliant presentation from @marinemollyk on nursery dependancy in juvenile lemon sharks 🦈 Always fantastic to see the great PhD research from fellow @univofstandrews biology alumni in person!

A great example of what #eDNA can reveal: The discovery of a tiny fish far from its normal range is a poignant reminder of the changes that are already happening.

🌊 Don’t know what a Metaprobe is? That’s alright, here it is 😃. Metaprobes are 3D printed spheres, that hold gauze which acts like a strainer in the ocean to collect #eDNA. (see DOI: 10.1016/j.fishres.2022.106259)

Have you ever wondered what’s in a marine ecologists sampling bag? Here’s what’s in mine when we sample for eDNA in seawater with a #Metaprobe.
