When we did our first CMS anomaly detection search we had to come up with a way to calibrate the ML identification of 'exotic' jets we have never seen in data
I developed this new method, now being used by multiple analyses in CMS!
Exciting news from #NeurIPS2024! 🎉 A3D3 members showcased groundbreaking work in AI for scientific discovery. Check out Dr. Eli Chien's brilliant recap of their talks and posters.

Thea Klaeboe Aarrestad (@Thea_kaa ) talks about the need for nanosecond inference at the Large Hadron Collider. (That’s the raw data rate, we can’t keep it all) #ML4PS2024
We have the amazing @Thea_kaa from @CERN speaking about “Pushing the limits of real-time ML: Nanosecond Inference for Particle Discovery at the LHC”. Join us in room 211 at the Vancouver Convention Center.
Join us for the #A3D3 seminar on Monday, 11/18 at 12pm PST, "Hunting the Unexpected: Anomaly Detection and Real-Time Triggers at the Large Hadron Collider" by
@Fermilab Wilson Fellow Jennifer Ngadiuba https://t.co/oVDVb8PnWt
This seems like as good of a time as any to remind everyone that we have an awesome workshop series at @NeurIPSConf on Machine Learning and the Physical Sciences. That includes both Physics for ML and ML for Physics. #NobelPrize2024 Hinton & Hopfield

Physics and AI/ML, check out the journal Machine Learning: Science and Technology (@MLSTjournal) published by the Institute of Physics (@IOPPublishing). #NobelPrize2024 Hinton & Hopfield
⌛Just released: CMS delivers unprecedented precision in a measurement of the W boson mass at the LHC - and it agrees with the Standard Model! Almost a decade in the making, this result sets a new milestone for precision measurements at hadron colliders: https://t.co/aooujPYV0m
Finishing our Foundations of Experimental Particle Physics class early today in order to show the students some Foundations of Experimental Particle Physics. Congratulations @CMSExperiment !
From Statistics meets ML in London, to Sustainability meets ML in Belfast! Super excited to learn about emerging technologies for a sustainable future and to discuss how we approach efficient inference at CERN!
Next up at #PHYSTAT is a key topic where physics applications need to push the boundaries of statistics & ML: anomaly detection.
Great 4-pack of talks by @lilyhzhang@GrossoGaia@Thea_kaa & AndreS
🆕 exhibition in #Geneva⤵️
“Not a Woman’s Job” you said?
The annual @UNGeneva exhibition proves otherwise! Come by the 2024 edition & see those who’ve paved the way, this time science & tech!
Norway is proudly represented by CERN particle physicist Dr Thea Klæboe Årrestad 🇳🇴🙌
We have an opening for not only one but two PhD student positions in the High Energy Physics group @psich_en to work on #HiggsBoson physics and related topics with the @CMSExperiment. For more information, see https://t.co/dPjSbGNwcr #HepJobs
