Just figured out where these fake tariff rates come from. They didn't actually calculate tariff rates + non-tariff barriers, as they say they did. Instead, for every country, they just took our trade deficit with that country and divided it by the country's exports to us.

So we have a $17.9 billion trade deficit with Indonesia. Its exports to us are $28 billion. $17.9/$28 = 64%, which Trump claims is the tariff rate Indonesia charges us. What extraordinary nonsense this is.

People will start picking apart the math. It’s obvious all the lies he told about foreign tariff rates. First, he already created a magic escalator that he could just pretend existed called “trade barriers and currency manipulation” OK well the Euro is not a manipulated currency. Arguably far less than the dollar. Europe doesn’t have trade barriers. They had modest tariffs. So the 20% tariff is much higher than the tariffs the Europeans actually impose on US goods and what is essentially done for most countries is simply look at the trade balance on goods (but not services - because if you use services we’d be ahead - but they don’t want you to look at that) and then he simply divided it to come up with the tariff number.

It has nothing to do with tariffs and nothing to do with currency manipulation or trade barriers. The man is intentionally trying to break the back of the American economy so that people will be so impoverished that they will accept a dictatorship. That is the only logical conclusion… the rest is all lies. Sorry, but that’s what’s happening.
