This is Oligarchy.
Since Election Day, Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos & Mark Zuckerberg have become $232 billion richer & are now worth $920 billion combined. Meanwhile, 60% of Americans live paycheck to paycheck.
We must fight for an economy that works for all, not just the few.
Luigi Mangione’s attorney has not been given any of the evidence that the police are leaking to the media on an hourly basis. The fact that the police can convict someone in the media before the case has even been tried in a court room shows you how absurd our justice system is.
A recent report found that the for-profit US healthcare system ranks last among peer nations.
We spend twice as much per capita on healthcare and have the worst health outcomes.
Reminder that Medicare For All would save $450B in health care costs and 68,000 lives per year.
A small number of billionaires own and control our economy. Increasingly, they own and control our government through a corrupt campaign finance system.
This is not democracy. This is oligarchy.
We must overturn Citizens United and move to public funding of elections.
Yes.
We waste hundreds of billions a year on health care administrative expenses that make insurance CEOs and wealthy stockholders incredibly rich while 85 million Americans go uninsured or underinsured.
Health care is a human right.
We need Medicare for All.
All I'll say about the UnitedHealthcare CEO is that you should try to live your life so that if you ever get shot, the reddit news thread isn't full of people saying "Yeah, I get it."
Yeah just a healthy reminder while all this shit is going on with my brother. My dad got a rare cancer and BCBS denied him so we sued and won but by time that had settled, it had spread everywhere and we were burying him a year later. Fuck the US Healthcare system
On Transgender Day of Remembrance, we honor the lives lost to anti-trans violence.
In Illinois, we commemorate their stories and renew our commitment to ensuring every person in our state receives dignity, respect, and equality.
Trans rights are human rights — today and always.
This Transgender Awareness Week, I want you to know that I see you and have your back as governor.
Illinois has enshrined protections for gender-affirming care to meet this moment — and because of that, you will have a home here always.
It is #TransgenderAwarenessWeek—but awareness is not enough.
Educators' mandate is to keep our students safe.
We must support, celebrate, and defend our trans students. And we will continue to do so until every trans child has the safety and inclusion that they deserve.
Trump’s insane Cabinet picks are meant to shock us.
Yes, he’s handing cushy jobs to his most loyal minions, but it’s more than that.
He’s prepping the nation for what’s to come. For what he’s going to do next.
With each new outrage he moves the chains for what is considered “normal”. So once we’ve “adjusted” to the new disturbing reality of what is possible, he then can do something even worse.
Something more radical, more anti-democratic, more dangerous, more authoritarian, more amoral.
What he’s doing now is just the beginning.
What’s to come will be so, so much worse.
So we need to brace for it.
And we need to be ready to fight.
Chin up, team. Take some time. Take care of yourself. Take care of your loved ones. Take care of your community.
There are a million ways to make a difference—get back in the fight when you’re ready.
And know that, whenever you are ready, I’ll be ready to get back in with you.
Chaos, retribution, and disarray radiated from the White House the last time Trump occupied it.
This time may be different. But if it isn’t, Illinois remains a place of stability and competent governance.
No matter the storm we face, you'll be welcome, safe, and protected here.
Don't be alarmed by Trump taking an early lead in the electoral vote count. We knew Kentucky, West Virginia, and other deep red states would be the first to be called. Hang in there. And if you're still in line to vote, stay there.
