At CFS, we’re very confident that our SPARC tokamak will generate net fusion energy, a crucial performance threshold also called Q>1.
Q is the ratio of fusion power coming out of the heart of a fusion machine to the heating power that’s pumped in to make fusion occur. Achieving Q>1 shows a fusion plasma is generating a surplus of power, and that’s the foundation for a power plant — the electricity source CFS expects to bring to the power grid in the early 2030s.
Fusion is hard, but we have the design, the resources, and the team to make fusion power real. Our conviction that Q>1 is comfortably within reach begins with our 1,000+ person team of physicists, engineers, fabricators, and operators who’ve learned from decades of experience building and running tokamaks. Next is SPARC’s cutting-edge design, which is designed to reach performance well over Q>1.
“We have some margin to achieve Q>1. We’re not sitting right at the threshold, hoping the stars align perfectly,” said Phil Snyder, Vice President of Plasma Physics. “SPARC is designed to reach Q>10, so Q>1 is not an extremely difficult milestone.”
Only one machine so far, the National Ignition Facility (NIF) at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, has achieved Q>1 so far. To read about why CFS fully expects SPARC will be the next to reach this enormously important milestone, check our blog detailing our fusion approach.
The sixth vacuum vessel sector is in position in the ITER tokamak pit, bringing two-thirds of the plasma chamber into place. Touchdown came after 29.5 hours—six hours faster than the previous sector. Every operation builds the machine and the team’s expertise #ITER#FusionEnergy

Unitree unveiled the behind-the-scenes training of the game-changing Kung Fu robots
Many world’s first high-difficult movements by Chinese robots:
• World’s first continuous freestyle table-flipping parkour
• World’s first catapult somersault, reaching over 3 meters in height
• World’s first continuous single-leg backflips and two-step wall kick backflip
• World’s first 7.5 full Airflare rotations
• World’s first rapid group positioning…
Are you watching the Chinese New Year Gala? The Robot Kungfu show is mind blowing!!!
They just executed a coordinated martial arts routine with spatial precision, rhythm control, and dynamic balance adjustments in real time.
Kung fu, one of China’s most iconic traditional art forms , performed by machines built with cutting-edge AI control systems, advanced actuators, and high-speed feedback loops. Ancient discipline meets algorithmic precision.
Last year, humanoid robots stepped onto the Spring Festival Gala stage for the first time. This year, they held synchronized kung fu stances with balance that would humble half of us after leg day.
And they did it live!!! On the most-watched television event on the planet.
The progress in just one year is magical.
That’s what we call China speed.
What makes it even sweeter is where this happened.
I love how the progress is integrated in culture. In celebration. In a Lunar New Year gala watched by hundreds of millions.
It’s music to my ears.
The robots didn’t look like they were “trying” anymore. They looked like they belonged.
Their joint articulation was smoother.
Their formation timing tighter.
Their balance recovery almost elegant.
Their choreography is expressive.
That’s what happens when AI models improve, control systems get smarter, hardware stabilizes, and iteration cycles compress.
One year in robotics today is not the same as one year ten years ago.
It’s compounding.
If this is what 12 months looks like,
imagine 36.
The Chinese New Year Robot Kungfu Gala is just futuristic.
It was quite the statement!
The future is getting better very, very fast.
It was so beautiful to watch. What do you think?
New year, new major milestone: We have completed, delivered, and mounted our first magnet for SPARC inside Tokamak Hall ✅ 🧲 .
The significance of this toroidal field (TF) magnet achievement can't be overstated. In many ways, its story is the CFS story. Back when the company started in 2018, some thought creating a TF magnet with high-temperature superconductor (HTS) was a farfetched idea. But our founders' resolve to develop this key innovation unlocked our new pathway to a smaller, more economical fusion power plant.
This toroidal field (TF) magnet is one of 18 that'll be threaded around the vacuum vessel to help tame and confine the superhot plasma once our SPARC tokamak is operational. The vacuum vessel, the donut-shaped container at the heart of the machine as devoid of air as outer space, offers the extreme conditions needed for fusion. The TF magnets help create a magnetic bottle, confining the fusion plasma to keep it away from the vessel walls that would cool it down.
