This whole thread is required reading. @Northeastern requiring faculty to teach full time in person with no provision for working parents is a disgrace.
Let's break down what that means for faculty parents:
We spent all summer, unpaid and without childcare, building hybrid courses for the fall semester.
We teach these courses effectively while caring for our kids whose schools are also hybrid or remote.
@joelmcglothlin@jwiggi21 Thanks. I am contemplating the switch to Zimmer and Emlen (from Freeman and Herron), actually. The activation energy is SO high for a textbook switch.
Shift your thinking about your role, shift your pedagogy, shift your narrow expectations of what an online course is, what it could be. Stop focusing on what is no longer possible, and start thinking about what you can do in these circumstances for your students.
