@daisychristo@_paullay If we have VAR then I have no problem that it's a foul on the keeper. But the Arsenal fouls on Summerville, Todibo and Mavropanos all started before the ball got anywhere near Raya. So "on review" no goal, but penalty to West Ham.
National Trust DG has been awarded CBE in the New Year honours. The Daily Telegraph reported the news ‘has drawn controversy’. Given it was strictly embargoed til after the paper went to print & there were no comments, it seems that once again, their only source is themselves.
@aljhlester Also, Dulwich was a direct grant school where a large number of pupils had their fees paid by the local council - at least 30 from London Borough of Bromley, for example, and probably a similar number from Croydon.
He eventually founded Longman's florists, the company that made Princess Elizabeth's wedding bouquet and her coronation bouquet when she became Queen. Would you have welcomed him when he arrived?
Britain welcomes migrants who contribute to our economy and society.
High earners, entrepreneurs and skilled frontline workers like NHS staff will be fast-tracked to settlement – rewarding those who give, not take.
It's a pity @BBCr4today didn't have these figures to hand before the interview on knife crime with Chris Philp:
Record number of knives taken off streets as knife murders plummet - https://t.co/rk8OKAIkeg https://t.co/5C6SgigRfU
Far too little acknowledgement is given to the amount of time and energy Starmer has had to devote to trying to minimise the damage to European security arising from the destabilising impact of Trump's presidency. It has presented challenges unmatched since the 2nd World War.
If I skived Parliament on a day when issues affecting my constituency were being discussed and instead flew off to another country where I spent my time slagging off my country. I would rightly be dubbed a lazy, anti-patriotic waster. Just saying.
Appearing on Radio 4 this morning to comment on the government's proposal to remove judges from the asylum appeals process, I was followed by Jo White, Labour MP and chair of the Red Wall Caucus, who referred to immigration lawyers and said:
"you see the ambulance chasers out there and I think for many solicitors it's a licence to print money..."
Not only is this a terrible insult to hardworking immigration lawyers and advisors across the country, it's a fabrication; ignorant & careless commentary like this suggests Ms White does not understand the sector and is probably bereft of any real ideas. That she is happy to go on national radio and use the sort of language known to fuel discontent in the hope that this plays out well at the next election, putting the legal profession and NGOs at even more risk than already faced, is appalling.
If I was unsure whether these new plans are an attack on the judiciary, Ms White leaves us in little doubt. And it's not just the judiciary, it's the legal profession. That a Labour MP has no regard for the rights of people within its borders, for our democracy, or for upholding the rule of law, is deeply troubling.

"This is unlike anything we've ever seen before."
The Atlantic's David Frum on the "sick psychological dynamic of what President Trump is up to" with proceedings like the FBI raid on former national security advisor John Bolton.

A moment to enjoy - the Daily Telegraph's 12 best things about living in Britain. In at number 4 - the National Trust. We come in after Test Match Special, cream teas and the coastline. For once I won't be seeking a correction or apology from them.
New analysis from @csjthinktank today is certainly eye-catching but how much does it reflect what happens for people claiming social security payments and the people who @TrussellUK support? 🧵
@ObserverUK Not only have you canned proper match reports, but you've also introduced Guardian-style errors. The South African cricket captain'' first name is Temba, not Tenda. And that thumbnail of Sophie Ecclestone is clearly not 'Tenda Bavuma parading the trophy around'. Ffs
Went to Twickenham to write about breakaways, rebranding and reinvention.
Then a game broke out, with Bath winning the title....

That was the reset that was. New post on my Brexit & Beyond Blog evaluating the framing and content of the UK-EU reset Summit, political reactions to it, and what it says about Labour's post-Brexit approach to the EU: https://t.co/ivkRdwkrKM
