@IanD0001 and the head coach (not the DoF, not the Head of Recruitment, not the Sporting Director) had to assess, plan and execute a transfer strategy with no lead-time. Elanga was chased as a supply for a tip-of-the-spear striker, Woltemade isn't that and Wissa is injured/shit.
@IanD0001 Guehi agreed personal terms, Parish just didn't want to sell. All clubs have injuries, but only Spurs lost more minutes to injuries than us. To dismiss that is churlish at best. Wissa was a panic buy because the club fucked up with Isak, 1/2
@IanD0001 Howe has consistently overachieved except for this season. Howe has consistently improved players. Howe has achieved success the like of which few if any living Newcastle fan has seen. This season has so many asterisks it looks like a hidden password. But fans have zero patience
@_Jenky88 Isn't having final say important for a head coach when the execs are changing all the time? Ashworth, Mitchell, now Wilson. All during Howe's time. He's 100% got Wissa wrong, I agree with Elanga too. But those two aside his final say has been pretty good, hasn't it?
@_Jenky88 We definitely could have loaned him in early 24, with the same/similar deal as Frankfurt. I think Liverpool were going to sign them both regardless of what we did. Because that's succession planning.
@_Jenky88 Yeah, Rayan looks quality, but Bournemouth have years of unreal recruitment, a settled exec board, succession planning on top of succession planning. We don't. Where is Wilson's replacement? Or Bruno. Or Pope? They should already be at the club.
@_Jenky88 Now, those two are flops, I agree, but it shouldn't be left to Howe to sort that shit out especially not during the window. We should have sorted Isak's replacement ages ago. Why the fuck didn't we sign Ekitike years ago? That's not on Howe, that's on the DoF.
@_Jenky88 Definitely agree that those two are transfer mistakes. But I 100% believe Elanga was bought to be a supply to an Isak-like striker (predatory, finisher, tip of the spear). Be that Isak, Ekitike, Pedro, Sesko, or Wissa. Woltemade isn't that. And Wissa got injured/is shit.
@IanD0001 But let's see what some random manager can achieve within the same constraints. I hear rattling through managers is a clear path to success...
@IanD0001 He didn't fuck up Isak, Ekitike, Trafford deals. He didn't injure Tino, Hall, Joelinton, Tonali, Miley, Botman, Wissa etc. He didn't orchestrate a window where all the top clubs were buying strikers. He didn't pull tough draws out of the bag. He didn't make the PL use Stoke-Ball.
@_Jenky88 Until we have the financial muscle to fill the squad with quality, we can't compete in 4 competitions regardless of who's in charge. Howe is limited, but his ceiling is high enough to allow us to hit or exceed our targets 4/5 times.
@_Jenky88 I genuinely think he's proven to be a "best of the rest" level of manager & any replacement would face the same issues; small squad, big expectations from board & fans, financial constraints, etc. trading him for Glasner or Iraola e.g. *might* improve things, but probably won't.
@_Jenky88 I think people are so unhappy with the league season they'll find any stick to beat Howe with. He deserves criticism, for sure. But honestly, the way some are going on, you'd think we got relegated. Give Howe half an undisrupted season at least
