This #SaturdayRocks we're not avoiding the #potholes!
Potholes are hollows in a hard riverbed surface created by the grinding action of sediment as stream eddies move it in circular motion.
Do you have any potholes near where you live?

#HappyHolidays from us at #ThisIsPlanetEarth

#DYK that the #arctic region includes Canada, Russia, USA, Iceland, Greenland, Sweden, Norway and Finland? Have you explored within the Arctic Circle?

#SaturdayRocks with us at #TIPE!
This Saturday we share with you some nautical facts - 71% of Earth is covered in water and 96.5 of that is salt water.
Have you done an #EarthCache in the water before?
🤔🌎🌅🌊

Happy #InternationalMountainDay from us @ThisIsPlanetRth!
From where we stand, we've got some pretty awesome mountains to appreciate today! How about you?

It's sedimentary, my dear Watson!
#SaturdayRocks features one of the three primary classes of rock. Can you name the other two?

Beaches come, and beaches go - but why?
Waves, tide, and wind dominate coastal landforms such as beaches. Rivers deposit the sediment which then gets moved and shaped. 😎🏖️🌊

#SaturdayRocks when the tide goes out at the Serpentine Fen in Surrey, BC. This #intertidal zone is habitat to many species and provides a unique insight into sedimentary deposits.

What a wall! Have you visited the @UBC Earth Sciences building?🤯
These amazing slabs of stone from around the world are an outdoor museum display of fantastic #geology

Crave a cave? Wait - is it a cave? How do you tell?
Any cavity in the ground that is large enough for a person to enter - AND - will have some portion that cannot receive direct sunlight.

#SaturdayRocks up in the mountains today!
A tarn is a mountain lake or pond, formed in a depression from a glacier. Have you seen an #earthcache on tarns before?

Don't let this one bog you down!
Bog ecosystems feature many unusual plants and animals due to the unique geology of the area. I could be in Jurassic Park, or maybe just checking out skunk cabbage leaves!

What's a river gauge?
Basically, a measuring stick to assess the height of the river over it's "average." These are frequently used for observations in an #EarthCache

The trouble with turbidites!
These graded, sequential beds of deposits are rarely noticed until they are uplifted or tilted at which point they really put on a show!

Pardon the intrusion - but they do come in many shapes and sizes!
We found this basaltic intrusion while scrambling up a mountainside. What would that tell us about this area?

Talus or scree? How can you tell?
🤔⛰️
Scree is the material, and talus is the landform it creates.
More information can be assessed from the angle of repose and the average size of the debris.

Have you visited sea stacks before?
These columns of rock are usually formed by wave erosion of softer rock surrounding the pillars.
