If you listen to my #podcast, you'll get a behind the scenes view of a life lived as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses and come along on my recovery.

Brandi has created her own little family out of new people she meets. Her in-laws, her friends - these have become family.
Many of us have had to create families. Shunning is an act - it's something you do to another person. No matter if you want to hurt them, it is damaging.
Brandi is in a new relationship with someone who has very different spiritual beliefs than hers. She remembers how often she was told that could never work. But it's working, and working well unlike the marriage where she followed all of the JW rules.

It's hard to have healthy ways of seeing sexuality when you grow up surrounded by unhealthy messaging and examples.
Brandi was blaming herself for her husband's preference and he was told that she would fix him.
Allowing them to be who they are wasn't even considered.

"I remember my husband saying ‘youre a sex addict’ but I’m not. I just waited 21 years of my life for this thing and I thought it was going to happen because I did everything right and it’s not happening and I don’t know why."
Brandi would later learn that her husband is gay.
When Brandi met the Brother she would eventually marry, her parents were embarrassed by him. He was only a 3 on her dad's scale of 10 because he was a Pioneer and Ministerial Servant. Not even close to spiritual enough for marriage material in her dad's mind.

Brandi remembers saying several dedication prayers because she wasnt sure if she was doing it right. Shouldn't there be some change, something you feel?
When her parents asked, of course she said she did it right. But how would a 13 year old know how to dedicate their life?
"Biased And Naive"
We should write a book about the Jehovah's Witness experience and call it that.
We walked around thinking we were special because we had all of the answers and trying to tell others how to live. But we knew and experienced so little.

After telling his own story, Mike started Shunned Podcast in order to help others tell their stories. Jenny is episode one of Shunned.

Mike is excited to be able to work with ICSA and to be part of a live streaming event this Sunday to help those leaving high control groups as well as the therapists that hope to help them. Feel free to join in. There will be a live Q&A afterwards.
Today is our shunniversary!
We are asking you to help us celebrate by reaching out to someone who is shunned.
Everyone needs to be seen and heard. So reach out to someone today see how they're doing. Show some interest. You might be the only person to do so in a long time.
@ReneeYLaBonte At this point in my life I #celebrateeverything!!
Thank you for putting yourself in the shoes of those who lived this. Your recognition of our pain is so healing. We are all very glad that attention is being focused on the harm that cults like these do to people!
