🚨CYCLE SCORING ALERT🚨
Tons of folks sent this one in from the @Phillies and @Mets game, with Bryce Harper completing the cycle with this fifth inning triple.
I believe this was scored correctly as a triple.
This falls under Rule 9.06; Determining the Value of Base Hits.
The key is Harper never slowed down at all and was going for third the whole time. One of the things the scorer has to determine is whether or not Harper went to third on the throw or not.
He obviously was going for third regardless, and the fact that he would have been out is inconsequential here.
The OS Manual states this:
“Had the bases been empty, would the batter-runner have attempted to advance the extra base? If not, the value of the base hit should not include the additional base.”
The answer on this one is yes, Harper would have ATTEMPTED to advance. Doesn’t say if he would have been safe. Since he would have attempted this regardless of the throw home, he was, IMHO, correctly credited with a triple.
Prior to tonight’s game against the Milwaukee Brewers, the Phillies announced the following roster moves:
Recalled outfielder Gabriel Rincones Jr. from triple-A Lehigh Valley and will wear No. 17
Placed outfielder Adolis García on the 60-day injured list with a right latissimus dorsi tear
Outfielder Derek Hill reported to the club and will wear No. 49
Placed outfielder Steward Berroa on the paternity list
Trade news: The Philadelphia Phillies are acquiring center fielder Derek Hill and international bonus money from the Chicago White Sox for outfield prospect Dylan Campbell and infield prospect Jose Colmenares, sources tell ESPN.
Cris what an amazing performance man. Never seen anything like that, wish it could have kept going but all good things must come to an end. Time to start a new streak
