Highest rainfall of massive 204 mm was recorded in Kesbewa area during the 22-hour period ending at 6.30 AM today (13), according to the Department of Meteorology.

🔹 Wathupitiwala– 105 mm
🔹 Bandaragama– 102 mm
🔹 Horana– 101 mm

Showery conditions are expected to continue across parts of Sri Lanka as the low-pressure system near the island persists.

Sri Lanka has decided to increase the Value Added Tax (VAT), this time by 3%, from 15% to 18%. Against this backdrop, it's worth listening to this clip from the hit TV show "The West Wing".

This is Senator Arnold Vinick, a fictional U.S. Senator, during a presidential debate, explaining how the West urges countries like ours to raise taxes to generate more revenue to repay the loans we've taken, resulting in countries like ours being trapped in an endless cycle of debt.
