I have been a loyal @OpenAI guy from day 1. I’ve had an account since they first released and used it daily since I think GPT 3.5.
Based on @sama’s move tonight to accept the DoD terms that Anthropic would not, I am removing all traces of Codex and OpenAI software from all devices.
I absolutely hate to do this and it’s going to really compromise my ability to be productive in the short term, but every possible alarm bell is going off at full blast in my head right now. This has the potential to be the most egregious incursion on privacy the world may have ever seen.
I think Sam just saw too many dollar signs and didn’t realize how obvious this move would make the optics but it’s clear to me now OpenAI is compromised. Not sure what the next step will be from here, but the trust is totally gone. Very disappointing.
This is a huge opportunity for Europe. Welcome Anthropic with open arms. Roll out the red carpet. Visa for all employees.
Europe already controls the AI hardware bottleneck through ASML. Add the world's leading AI safety lab and you have the foundations of an AI superpower.
Anthropic has been absolutely heroic.
Let's ALL switch to Claude today - not just because it's the best AI model (that the Pentagon WILL NOT have for mass surveillance + killer drones), but also because they are simply the good guys.
It’s extremely good that Anthropic has not backed down, and it’s siginficant that OpenAI has taken a similar stance.
In the future, there will be much more challenging situations of this nature, and it will be critical for the relevant leaders to rise up to the occasion, for fierce competitors to put their differences aside. Good to see that happen today.
The United States now playing the role that communist satellite states once played in the UN: sponsoring resolutions in its own name but on behalf of Moscow.
Normally we don't endorse anyone, but Donald Trump is such a unique danger to the United States of America and the rest of the world. We implore you to show up and VOTE tomorrow
After watching the racism dial turn further and further on this site, I decided to try and publicly make as definitive a case as I could. We're so far past the point of no return that I'm out of excuses for myself. Been a good 15+ year run. Bye! https://t.co/scPPVGDiac
This is a really big deal, under-the-radar.
The new Irish media commission has a real, simple, easy to implement plan for stopping addictive and dangerous algorithms: require them to default off.
People can opt-in, but start without the addictive algorithm manipulating you.
Die letzten Wochen haben mein Vertrauen in journalistische Standards hart erschüttert.
Jeden Tag sehe ich falsche/unbelegte Behauptungen. Von Journis unhinterfragt verbreitet, ohne jedes Gespür für Verantwortung

It’s striking how many family members of Israelis who were murdered or kidnapped are asking the government not to use their grief to kill more people. It seems to me that if in the worst days of their lives they can keep their humanity, the rest of us can follow their example.
Thread.
I finished teaching a course on evil last Thursday. The last reading we discussed was Hannah Arendt’s “Thinking and Moral Considerations.” In the essay Arendt asks how politics can become so divorced from reality as to destroy our sense of moral judgment.

I try to answer the questions: what does the DTC brand deluge of the 2010s all amount to?
And how do we respond to the designed cultures, connected cults, and digital faiths that are superseding brands today?

Should platforms such as FB, Google, YouTube be allowed to subject material from "press publications" broadly conceived (including your favorite sources but many others too) to content moderation-as some have, whether from Aftenposten, NY Post, Sky News Australia, or Sputnik? 1/9
