@PaulTassi There are things they could offer in exchange.
- Make online multiplayer free again
- Commit to a lower standard price for future digital only games
- Promise future methods for playing past physical games on future consoles
- Provide an option to share digital games (Nintendo)
@AgreeingBook13 I figure it's because they're uneducated about what's going on in the world beyond their immediate interests. Who the current president is is the limit of their world awareness so when something like this happens it's the only cause they can think of. Blame Trump for everything.
@envinyon What it does prove is that the vast majority of their customers have the capability to easily buy and download digital games, which couldn't be said 2 generations ago, hence the Xbox One backlash. It's not an indicator of customer preference, however.
@merricologist There was something special about playing P5 first and then going into P5R blind when it released. It made a certain twist better, but you wouldn't know the difference if you hadn't played the og first. I can't recommend playing them back to back, though. Just play P5R imo.
@Firebreather452@PlayStation Do those numbers include games that were only ever released digitally? There are more games on the digital store than have been released physically, so that wouldn't be fair. We should only be looking at the physical/digital split of games that got released both ways.
@DVADigital323@S0vereignfdawn You can customize the icons that pop up in the toolbar on the bottom of the screen when you press the home button. One of the icons is a controller status indicator that shows a battery level.
@PaperSonicIdol@inkfycreates In that case, installing to internal SSD before playing would still be an option. You could argue that's not optimal for the pick up and play aspect you mentioned, but that is how game key cards currently work.
@ryoukazehara@SonicHero3D But with PS4, Sony changed the architecture so that it could be improved in iterations without completely redesigning the system, making backwards compat much simpler. PS4 games will likely remain playable on PS6 and more in the future, so they will remain on sale in the store
@ryoukazehara@SonicHero3D The risk of storefronts closing pretty much ended with the PS3. The games will stay available if they can be sold and played on modern hardware, but that's not an option because emulating the PS3's unique architecture is so difficult. Old consoles used to be unique each gen. 1/2
@inkfycreates The Wii U read games off discs. I find it hard to believe at least the Switch 1 couldn't also run its games off disc with Wii U load times.
Also, they could have just required you to install to storage before playing, like they do with key cards. Form factor was the problem imo
@mrlanky24 Steam has a lot of advantages over console, and physical media was one of the shrinking number of advantages console had over PC. People are upset that they are just losing that functionality and it comes with no benefit to the customer. Game prices remain the same. A net loss.
@SpecterM91 You probably have to worry more about your console's disc drive wearing out more than you have to worry about disc rot.
AFAIK, disc rot is more a concern on a per-game basis, like if there was a bad printing of a particular game. On average, games last as long as you need them.
@IntroSpecktive Long shot prediction: PS6 will have a console and portable option available, so Sony needs a physical format that allows you to buy it once and play it on either system. Discs dont work for the portable because of their size.
What if Sony starts selling game key cards for PS6?
