@howardanglin @Bratt_world The Douglas Treaties weren’t a blanket surrender of all Victoria. They covered specific lands and provided compensation and certain rights to First Nations. Calling them unrestricted transfers of the entire area oversimplifies what was actually agreed.

If you’re arguing that conquest alone doesn’t create a legitimate land claim, that principle applies to everyone—including colonial governments. “Too bad, so sad” isn’t an argument; it just avoids the actual law surrounding Indigenous title.

Modern life involves adopting technology; that doesn’t erase different legal traditions, political institutions, or cultural identity.

Métis: Same as all Canadians

First Nations: Same as all Canadians (off reservation) on reservations there are some legal tax benefits on income earned on Rez and purchases. 60% of FN live off reservations.
