Poking around on Polkadot - Volume 1

gm friends - been meaning to get this out for a few days.

As mentioned before, I partnered up with Polkadot to produce some educational content about what's available onchain currently, as they're trying to rebrand a bit and showcase what all is going on in the ecosystem.

Lately you all know I've been pretty heavily focused on Base due to AI stuff, but that actually has worked out pretty well...because there's some solid stables and yield farming opportunities using DOT and USDC/USDT.

I've been using Talisman wallet (and testing out a few others), but one thing that's kinda neat (that I haven't seen on my usual ETH-related degening) is the ability to stake in the wallet. Honestly I don't know if I'm maximizing my yield, as there's still a lot I haven't explored, but being able to get 10-15% APY on staked DOT without having to do anything but open the wallet is nice.

The other thing I've been using the last couple weeks is Hydration. There's a lot of features I *haven't* tested yet and it seems like a pretty expansive liquidity protocol, but the USDC/USDT stable farming was an attractive option for me after looking around for a bit. ~33% APY with no (real) impermanent loss risk (unless something catastrophic for Tether or Circle) seemed like a great spot to park things when I'm not doing a ton of activity daily.

I will note that part of the APY is in "farming" rewards (extra emissions from the protocols) - so there is an inflationary element and asset devaluation potential baked into the APY. Overall that's pretty common though if anyone is offering you APY greater than treasury rates.

On my announcement post I got tossed a ton of different protocol ideas to check out, so I think that's probably the focus of Volume 2 (some gaming stuff, maybe look at memes, maybe see if any AI agents on DOT).

From my observations, it seems there's a *lot* to look at...but I still haven't found a great way to discern what's "legit legit" and what is mostly dead/ghost protocol. Think a large part of that is that my X algo doesn't touch this ecosystem at all.
