Hard no. The answer to the crisis in our prisons is decarceration, not 3,000 more beds.
Shrink the system. Invest in programming and rehabilitation. That’s how we make New York safer—not by doubling down on mass incarceration.
Rent, student loan debt (and PSLF loan forgiveness 🙌🏽), chronic illness and pet costs. Saving by meal prepping and introverting 😂. Splurging on books and basketball. Covered it all with @emmagf@nytimes
I'm standing with @804_local and our New York delivery workers. It's time to pass @tiffany_caban's Delivery Protection Act to protect workers and hold Amazon accountable. https://t.co/JUC6NQ8v0n
New York City is on verge of ending a huge chunk of Amazon's exploitation.
Right now Amazon technically doesn't employ tens of thousands of drivers.
These drivers officially work for other companies, but in reality those companies function like Amazon subsidiaries.
This loophole lets Amazon get away with not being responsible for all of these workers — who are exposed to unsafe working conditions and experience numerous accidents and injuries.
Now the New York City Council is close to closing that loophole, and Zohran Mamdani is throwing his weight behind the legislation too.
Our communities have won police accountability fights. Have won big investments in mental health, harm reduction, housing. Those are wins towards care, not cops at the center of our services and supports. We have a ways to go. Much love to those committed to doing hard things.
Organizing to end police violence, the criminalization of poverty, mental health, & substance use etc *is* hard…. And we continue to work to do hard things with wins to build on along the way.…
@tiffany_caban told us: “We’ve seen a lot of movement around Palestinian liberation, on antiwar organizing; we’ve seen a lot of movement around tax the rich. But policing is just hard.” She says she's an abolitionist first, and committed to those goals:

Thrilled to see @NYCMayor join us in supporting this critical bill led by CM @CabanD22 . It’s time to protect NYC workers, hold Amazon accountable, and make sure every delivery worker can do their job safely and with dignity.
Let’s get the Delivery Protection Act passed! ✊🏽
Amazon made more than $92 billion in the first half of this year but uses legal loopholes to deny workers their constitutional right to a union.
I applaud @NYCMayor for supporting legislation holding Amazon accountable for this corporate greed & protecting its drivers.
O’BRIEN, ZUCKERMAN, AMAZON TEAMSTERS RALLY FOR DELIVERY PROTECTION ACT
Teamsters General President Sean M. O’Brien and General Secretary-Treasurer Fred Zuckerman rallied with hundreds of Amazon Teamsters, allies, and New York elected officials at Teamsters Local 282 to urge the New York City Council to pass the Delivery Protection Act.
The bill would require Amazon and other delivery companies operating in New York City to license their facilities and make Amazon’s third-party Delivery Service Partner model illegal within the five boroughs.
“Amazon’s Delivery Service Partner model is the most dangerous business model in America today. It allows Amazon to break the law while hiding behind shell companies it has total control over,” O’Brien said. “The Delivery Protection Act is the blueprint for how workers can fight back against Amazon’s greed. The New York City Council must pass this critical legislation and do its part to protect American workers.”
Did you know that Amazon uses a corrupt business model to avoid paying hundreds of thousands of workers the benefits they’ve earned and deserve?
Thank you to @NYCMayor for supporting the Teamsters-backed Delivery Protection Act, which would finally hold Amazon accountable, put an end to their crooked business model in New York City, and require them to fulfill their obligations to their workers.
Together, we will ensure that the Delivery Protection Act is signed into law!
Facts. Still here. Not straying. Standing ten toes down with the people and movements fighting for a safer and healthier city. You won’t find me repudiating the moral and effective policies that will keep us safer just because political popularity/winds shift back and forth.
Let’s remember what the so-called Woke 1 era was sparked by:
George Floyd, Sandra Bland, Breonna Taylor, Jacob Blake. And on and on and on. Unarmed Black people murdered by law enforcement with impunity.
I stand by that uprising and would never apologize for it or my role.
For too long, companies like Amazon have operated like it’s the Wild West, flouting workers’ rights, putting communities in danger, and acting with impunity.
Thank you to @NYCMayor for supporting my bill, the Delivery Protection Act, to keep workers and communities safe.
If it looks like an Amazon delivery and drives like an Amazon delivery, then it's an Amazon delivery, right? Not according to Amazon.
Big companies like Amazon have built a vast network of subcontractors who deliver their packages while shielding them from accountability.
It leaves our workers unprotected and our streets less safe. It's time for a change.
I'm proud to support the Delivery Protection Act to crack down on exploitative subcontracting and build an economy that works for everyone.
CM @tiffany_caban’s Delivery Protection Act, endorsed by @NYCMayor, is angling to close the subcontractor loophole Amazon uses. The move would force Amazon to recognize subcontractors as employees, echoing the (successful) fight against delivery apps.

@NYCMayor Thank you and @tiffany_caban for ruining Jeff Bezos’ day as he used this BS tactic to avoid responsibility for leading the industry in worker injuries and community pollution.
