If Marvel’s entire library was burning down, and i could only save four books…
- Walt Simonson's Thor
- Al Ewing/Joe Bennett' Immortal Hulk
- Abnett/Lanning's Guardians of the Galaxy
- Darko Macan/Igor Kordey's Cable/Soldier X
My most unhinged thought on my faith lately —
Unbelievers talk about “karma” and how they can come to peace with wrongs done to them because “karma” will pay back their offender. You know, what goes around comes around, and all that.
😆😆is this the moment where I burst their bubble and tell them I don’t believe “karma” will repay anyone who has done me evil? Actually….what I believe is far worse than that.
It’s no problem for me feel peace about leaving vengeance to the Lord….
The vengeance I’m waiting on? Its eternal, conscious torment by the most powerful Being that created all things. Far worse than any vague idea of whatever “karma” is. 💀
Oh and actually since I’m a Christian I’d prefer my enemies escape this fate worse than death via repentance and faith….
@SummrWrites this is really, really good. I've often simply told people, "I don't believe in karma." never crossed my mind to add, "I believe in something far worse." that's super helpful, Summer!
It would have to be Lewis. Even if we had nothing else to talk about (which is preposterous in itself), we'd both be able to talk about how much we loved LOTR. By all accounts Tolkien wasn't an easy person to get along with, and his takes on Lewis's work annoy me to this day.
Who Is America’s Homer?
If England has Shakespeare, Spain has Cervantes, Italy has Dante, and Russia has Pushkin, then who do we have? Do we have a great poet who captures the American spirit, the American story, the American identity? We asked for contributions from @fxxfy, @DanaGioiaPoet, @zenahitz, Emily Wilson, @ae_stallings, @_Zeets, @JcScharl, @amjuster, @RossBarkan, Christian Wiman.

@stephenaltrogge I was prepared to congratulate myself for coming up with "strangers waiting up and down the boulevard" until I realized we're thinking of the same song. 😂
@Arkypatriot Hampton Sides is a tremendous history writer. Blood and Thunder, about Kit Carson & the American West, is phenomenal. I also think you especially would appreciate On Desperate Ground, about the Marines' battle at Chosin Reservoir. Manchester's American Caesar is also terrific.
