Filmmaker Chris Burgard warns Lara Logan that one of the most dangerous outcomes of America’s growing ideological divisions could be violence, and he says the priority must be preventing it.

“We need to peacefully solve this,” Burgard says. “We don’t want there to be violence. We’ve shown how to win peacefully. We just need to do that on a bigger level.”

Burgard recounts a conversation with a Muslim scholar who told him Muslims are commanded to respect the laws of a country when they are the minority. Burgard says he then asked a question that changed the room:

“What happens when you’re not the minority?”

For Burgard, that exchange underscores why he believes Americans cannot afford to ignore these questions or wait years to confront them openly and peacefully.

To those who say "it's her choice" I used to say the same thing about my own Hijab.

I was covered head to toe. Even on the beach. Even with my male relatives. And when people challenged me, I said: this is my choice. You know why? Because the other option was burning in hell, hung by my hair for eternity. That's what they taught me since childhood.

Yes, let me repeat it for you to just understand about our version of “freedom of choice.” I grew up in an Islamist culture that gave me two options. Cover yourself and go to heaven. Or don't cover, and be hanged by your hair and burned in hell.

Like when someone puts a gun to your head and says "you can go left or right", technically, yes, that's a choice.

I picked heaven. I called it freedom. And I believed it, because that's what happens when fear is all you've ever known.

And if you think I shouldn't be telling you my story, I don't care. I really, genuinely, from the bottom of my heart, don't care. The women still living under that "choice"? I care about them.

So what if a Muslim wins an election in America and becomes a congressman or senator? Why is that any different from an Italian winning an election?

Let me tell you.

An Italian has a national identity, Italian, that is tied to a defined territory: the borders of Italy.

He may celebrate Italian holidays, follow Italian politics, send money home, or even dream of returning one day. None of this is inherently antithetical to the American nation-state.

The Italian American immigrant does not believe Ohio is part of Italy. His attachment is territorial. It is confined to a nation whose boundaries are recognized by everyone, including himself.

Islam presents something fundamentally different.

Islam is not merely a religion practiced by people from many nations. Muslims belong to a single civilization that transcends every nation.

A Muslim may be Egyptian, Pakistani, Nigerian, Bosnian, or Indonesian, but he belongs to something larger than the nation-state: the ummah.

The ummah is not a country with fixed borders. Its political horizon encompasses the entire world.

That is why Muslims repeatedly say that Islam will enter every home.

The ummah is not Italy. It has no border because it is the entire world.

This transnational identity is fundamentally antithetical to the American national sovereignty.

An Italian American may work to advance Italian causes, but those causes remain bounded by Italy.

A Jewish American may work to advance Israel’s interests, but those interests remain tied to a particular state with defined borders.

No Italian wants Italy to govern America. No Jew wants Israel to govern America. Muslims want Islam to rule America.

Islam is a state being presented to Americans as a religion, and Americans are electing Islamic politicians to rule them without realizing that they are electing citizens of another country whose priorities will never be American.

The story in the Bible that rattled me before I converted to Christianity from Islam:

The two thieves crucified next to Jesus. I never knew about them. Bro. They’re the whole Gospel in one scene.

Two men. Same sin. Same cross. Same dying breath. Same distance from Jesus — mere feet away on either side.

One mocks Him. One turns to Him and says, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.”

And Jesus tells the second man: “Today you will be with Me in paradise.” Luke 23:43.

That man did ZERO good works. He couldn’t. His hands were nailed down. He never prayed five times. Never fasted. Never gave to the poor. Never got baptized. He had nothing to offer but a dying glance toward Jesus.

And Jesus saved him... on the spot.

In Islam, that man was doomed. No time to balance the scale. No deeds to weigh. Game over. A horrible life with a horrible punishment ahead.

I wonder if that would be me…

Yet in the Gospel, that man was in paradise the same day — because salvation was never about his works. It was about WHO he turned to in his last moment.

Two criminals. Same cross. One simple difference: which one turned to Jesus.

That’s why the Gospel is offensive.

And Jesus asks everyone: who do you say I am?

Here’s the easiest way to understand the Arab–Israeli conflict.

In Egypt, Afghanistan, and Pakistan, Christian girls are kidnapped and forcibly converted to Islam. By law, once that happens, they can’t return to Christianity, and they can’t marry a non-Muslim. Thousands of such cases have been documented.

In Islam, it’s not only people who have religions, lands do too.

Christian lands were “converted” to Islam the same way those girls were: through force. And once that happens, the land can never go back. If the “family” of that land, its original people, tries to reclaim it, it’s treated as apostasy. Because in Islamic theology, once a land “marries” Islam, it belongs to it forever.

That’s the heart of the Arab–Israeli conflict: Israel is the land that refused to stay kidnapped.

Let me be honest. I wanted to stay Muslim so badly.

Not even because of God at first, but because of the life attached to it.

My dad’s businesses were waiting for me. Signed and ready.

My mom’s community. Doctors, lawyers, politicians. Connections everywhere.

Success was laid out in front of me.

There was even an arranged marriage lined up. A doctor. Beautiful future. House. Wedding. Stability.

All I had to do was say one sentence:

“Yeah, I still believe.”

That was it.

Keep the money.
Keep the family approval.
Keep the life.

But here’s what ruined it for me:

I could not unsee Jesus.

Once I really read the Quran and compared it to the Gospel, I couldn’t force myself back into pretending.

And honestly, knowledge becomes heavy at that point.

Because I didn’t leave Islam to rebel.

I left because I could not betray what I believed was true.

No business opportunity, no relationship, no comfortable future was worth denying the King who gave His life for me.

So yeah, my life would have been easier if I stayed.

But when Jesus says, “I am the way,” you don’t answer with, “But the other path feels safer.”

You pick up your cross and walk.
