Obama's Cash For Clunkers destroyed the used car market and skyrocketed prices?
Let's see what the data tells us happened to used car prices.
The number one factor that initially drove up used car prices was the missing 18.8 million new cars that Americans didn't buy between 2007 and 2014.
You can see that the new cars not sold in the red shaded area impacts the nominal price because there aren't enough used cars hitting the market each year. This has an immediate and lagging effect.
Next biggest impact comes in 2020 when our government flooded the market with freshly printed dollars and millions of new cars that normally would have been purchased. Again, putting fewer used cars into the market.
Now let's talk about Cash for Clunkers and the 677,081 vehicles it destroyed. As you can see it was a blip on the used car market. It was such a low number that it didn't even raise the scrappage line (purple) back up to its normal level.
Between 12m to 15m cars and light trucks are scrapped/retired every year. That's a 3 million swing in volume in any given year. That swing would have a bigger effect on used car prices in a given year than Cash for Clunkers.
Finally, there's exported used cars. I lumped official export data with the government's estimated grey and black market volume. More than double the number of C4C is moved outside the US every year.
So next time someone tries to claim Obama and Cash for Clunkers destroyed the used car market, just show them this chart.
I compiled this data from various government sources on used car market since no one has put these numbers together.
@MetalHorse233@michael_kove US has been dolling out an extra $2T for the past 6 years.
Nearly half of US economy is dependent on jobs where money is funneled down from government subsidies and money printing.
We would have hyperinflation if the rest of the world wasn't dependent on the US dollar.
You’re changing the typical argument of UBI, which is a welfare system.
Alaska is a good example of inflation. The extra money doesn’t afford people more goods or services as it’s an import driven economy where prices adjust to meet demand. If they could produce locally then their local economy could grow as the money stays instead of being sent outside the state.
At no point does UBI make sense. You have to pretend humans will suddenly evolve to behave differently.
You give large swaths of people free money and they become envious and resentful at best and violent, drug-addled criminals at worst.
The humans in government won’t change either. They’ll print money faster than abundance can lower inflation. The governments will need that money to be authoritarian enough to keep UBI universal.
@razibkhan I wonder how “firm” is defined because every Mexican business in the southwest employs only Mexicans.
I went to a Mexican restaurant down the street from me and they had a white girl working there. Took me by surprise.
No government organization can ever be fully funded.
As soon as money is added the organization increases headcount and demands more money - over and over forever.
@xwanyex Iglesias built his entire career and personality around being fluffy.
He isn’t just a fat guy in his mind. He’s successful because he’s fat.
There has to have been a deep fear of failure pop up when he started losing weight.
@natecurtiss_yt I took this route when I first started coaching 16 years ago. Then I reframed it to the call’s purpose is an outcome instead of a timer.
After that my client calls became variable. Whether we created an outcome in 15 minutes or a hour and 50 min that’s when the call was over.
@itsolelehmann We’re seeing our competitors using ai editing badly and it looks like no one reviews the cuts before sending it to the client.
Great for our growth though.

If you want to be in the 1% fitness wise in middle age it's really one word: Mobility.
Vast majority just hunched over, waking up with back pain, inflammation and poor hand eye coordination. Get injured picking stuff up.
All mobility. Downstream of range of motion
Beginning of the year at Edit Guys we started upskilling our editors in AI editing.
Now we won’t hire anyone who isn’t actively using AI video editing.
Under a year AI went from a nice-to-have to a mandatory skill.

@BowTiedBull's jungle is the best example of guys building businesses while still employed.
Friends of mine built businesses with using their real first name and variation of middle name. Kept personal life separate.
56% of men in their 50s get pushed out of employment.
But that doesn't mean their expertise isn't valuable anymore. The best thing men can do is start selling their knowledge while still employed.

My 83 yr old dad had triple bypass open heart surgery.
First thing I did after getting home from visiting was schedule a complete health check.
If you’re over 40, healthy and physically fit you still need to get a calcium score.
Half of heart attacks come from the LAD artery, nicknamed the widow maker.
You need to take steps to prevent a blockage from occurring long before you become a statistic.
Got my Calcium CT Score:
Left Main: 0
Left Circumflex: 0
Right Coronary Artery & Posterior Descending Artery: 0
Left Anterior Descending: 116
Grok, which artery do heart surgeons call the Widowmaker?

@Cernovich I was too stupid at 18 to handle any money responsibly. Joined the military and they straightened me out.
I did get some money to start a civilian life with GI Bill + IL gov paying tuition.
It wasn’t a lot, but it put me on my feet.
