The NBA should take a hard look at the racist violence that continues to escalate in the WNBA

The NBA underwrites the WNBA. That financial reality confers both influence and responsibility.

When on-court physicality repeatedly crosses into targeting, and when the league’s response remains tentative, the parent organization is effectively subsidizing the behavior along with that league.

A clear, public condition is straightforward: continued financial support depends on the WNBA restoring credible standards of player safety and accountability.

If the NBA made a statement that said it will stop subsidizing the WNBA if the violence doesn't stop, the violence would stop.

If not, the WNBA would be forced to take action against those players who don't fall in line. And if it didn't, the entire league would eventually fold for lack of funds.

Leverage tends to clarify incentives quickly.

The NBA has a role to play here. And it should act quickly before the escalating violence against players who people tune in to see drives them out of the WNBA.
