@LiberalHivemind Well, how many churches do you see in Turkey and Syria? Those used to be Byzantine Christian areas. I suppose some cathedrals did become mosques but most are simply gone. Does this help answer your question?
Since I publicly said I’m going to raise my child Christian, people have been leaving comments that look like this.
Make sure he is protestant, Catholics aren’t Christians.
Make sure he is Catholic, only Catholics are Christians.
And every other flavor.
I’m gonna say it bluntly.
If you believe Jesus is God and you believe He was resurrected, you’re a Christian.
I don’t care which version. Still fits the definition.
The doctrinal differences on everything else could make you right or wrong on doctrine, but you are still a Christian no matter if Orthodox, Catholic and ALL the rest.
The idea of denominational exclusivity whereby ONLY your single version makes you a Christian is SATANIC and of the Devil.
He wants to push people away from considering themselves Christians.
The Lord wants us all to come to Him.
I’m NOT willing to change my mind on this view.
No, I don't hate gay people. I think it's a sin to live a gay lifestyle, but there are a lot of things that are sins and simply being sinful is not enough for me to hate you. In my view, we're all sinful so if I hate you, I'd have to hate me, too. I will say that I'm completely against all of the LGBT stuff being taught in schools. I don't mind if kids talk amongst themselves about it, but I think that parents should have the right to have their kids educated in a manner that aligns with their religious freedoms.
Third parties will not work in the American legislative system. The system is inexorably two partied. It boils down to people either voting for change or the status quo. Now, it depends on what year as to which party is representing change and which one is the status quo, but those are always the two options.
If a third party comes along, they have three real choices about what to do. They can be more for the status quo than the current status quo party or they can be more for change than the current change party. The could also, I suppose, completely mirror one of the other parties though that seems some what illogical.
But if a party comes along and is popular enough because it is more for the status quo or more for change than a current party, it would merely replace that party or, more likely, be absorbed by the current party of change or status quo.
Our oil companies are not restricted to selling only oil to us. This ties them into the global market. Since they are capable of selling oil to whomever they wish, we have to compete with all the other potential buyers in the world as it pertains to price. When supply is low, they will raise their prices because if people in the US aren't willing to pay that much for it, they can sell it elsewhere, where those people are willing to pay the higher price for it.
@Redblade5@teameffujoe I certainly am having a great life. I hope the same for you. I'm somewhat confused that you consider that a "wall of text" but to each their own, I suppose.
Married women have the highest fertility rate of anyone in the country. Married women are not the ones causing an infertility crisis. The fact is that more men and women than ever are simply not getting married. Women are prioritizing careers over having children. This leads back to educational problems whereupon women are often told that they must go out and get a career to support themselves, even if it doesn't align with their personal goals. But in today's society, women can still get married and have and raise kids. Many are suggesting that the economics put this out of reach, and I will not deny that the government has created problems for married men and women when it comes to child affordability. In fact, I tend to believe that we should reduce the availability of social benefits to those who are chronically jobless and not married, and we should extend those benefits more generously to couples where at least one spouse has a job and where they have multiple children. But even this as a consideration, the social safety net in the US is sufficient for people to have reasonable sized families, even today. It is worth noting, though, that this safety net is often still somewhat flimsy and could be improved. You are not wrong to say that men are, in part, creating a problem but the problem isn't that men aren't doing enough in a marriage. It is men simply being absent from their children's lives, altogether.
You cannot objectively hold someone to a standard that has no inherent means of measurement. That is the definition of something being subjective. If the argument cannot be proven true on its own merits, it doesn't matter how many people agree, it is subjective. To clarify this, let's talk about objective and subjective statements, in general. An objective statement would be 2 + 2 = 4. This is objectively true because no matter what numerical system you develop nor how people interpret that system, when you add whatever numeral you've created as 2 to itself you will get the numeral that you've created as 4. It is a statement that is true on its own merits, without need of human interpretation. A subjective statement would be "the best color is blue." Even if 90% of people agree with that statement, it is not objectively true. The word "best" is arbitrary and will have a different meaning to different people. Further, the statement has no inherent means by which to prove itself true. If I make an argument that murder is evil because God says that it is evil, that statement can be viewed as objectively true on the assumption that God exists. If you say that murder is evil because a lot of people believe it is evil, that statement can never be objectively true.
Yes, if you look at my profile, the huge banner with Trump on it will probably tell you this. Where I suppose it is unclear with my picture whether I'm the man or the woman, my name being Tim should be a pretty strong clue as to my physical sex. I'm absolutely astounded by your deductive reasoning skills.
You didn't understand what I said. I'm not saying that you cannot view them as evil or immoral. But you cannot hold anyone else to that view as an objective standard. You have to subjectively hold them to that standard. You can say it is immoral but you have nothing objective upon which to measure the morality of their decisions. This means that, to them, they can say that it is completely moral, and you really don't have much argument against that other than you don't like what they did. My view of morality is based on a view of natural law which is handed down by God. I can always view their actions as immoral because God said those actions are, in fact, immoral. Again, it is a moral argument. You're free to believe as you wish but I choose to believe that there are absolutes with regards to morality and ethics that are handed down by intelligent design.
Let me drop some facts on you since you're clearly almost brain dead. You're life is in no way comparable to how hard people have had it in the past. You think it is because you live in such a luxurious society that you have time to complain about everything.
Life expectancy for women during the Great Depression was in the mid 60's. Before modern medicine, in the early 19th century, it was low 40's. That was, of course, an improvement from the Middle Ages where it usually fluctuated between low to mid 30's. Currently, the life expectancy for women in the US is 81 years old.
While it isn't great that we have food additives that are toxic and harmful and it isn't great that some hygiene products have been found to cause cancer, these things do not make your life in anyway comparable to the hardships people faced in the past. People faced those hardships and still had families and were thriving.
Whine some more, please.
Ah, another "I'm a genius because I discovered there is no God". Literally people have been debating the existence of deities for all of human history. You didn't suddenly come up with something new nor did you discover something that has somehow made you enlightened.
Further the existence of a deity is largely a moral argument. It is based on the question of whether or not you believe in objective morality or whether you believe that all morality is subjective. If one believes in objective morality, they have to concede that something must've created a set of rules that the universe must, inexorably, live by which gives rise to the ideal of objective morality.
If you simply believe that all morality is subjective, there is no need for God to exist. That said, though, if one believes all morality to be subjective, then things like Nazism, sexual force, murder, and pretty much any evil thing must be considered to be moral to the person who committed these horrible actions. This is because, if morality is subjective, they may simply view it differently than you. I prefer to believe that there is ojbective morality, though, and that these things are objectively evil.
My point is that our birth rate is worse than it was during the Great Depression even though we are far better off than we were then. Essentially, if your argument is that people don't have kids because they can't afford them, that is an idiotic argument which you cannot support with statistical data.
Socialism is the intermediary step between Communism and Capitalism. Communism is also a fantasy. There has never been a truly Communist country. There have only been Socialist countries with Communist ruling parties. But the USSR was the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. Notice that Communist is no where in that name. A Communist country would essentially have no government. It is a far left anarchic type of government. People just somehow magically get along and share everything. Everyone owns the means of production, and there is no such thing as private property. Socialism is similar but relies on a strong centralized government to essentially compel people to "share". The central government owns the means of production and private property is extremely limited. The government owns most property. Communism is a fantasy because it cannot actually be achieved. You cannot simply tell everyone to share and get along and trust that they will do it.
Anecdotal evidence is not evidence. There are multiple generations that have had things far worse and yet continued to procreate just fine. Also, the poorest people in the US tend to have more children than the middle class, and the middle class have more children than the wealthy. These are actual statistics.
There is no sin the blood of Christ cannot wipe clean. Even if you're incredibly dirty, Christ can still cleanse you of your sin and make you whole again. Whether or not she's truly converted, I cannot say. Only she knows that. But my statements remain true whether she has converted or not.
