Only a low IQ non-technical person thinks that a wireless sensor inside a ball with a shitty polling rate that is kicked around for hours is precise enough within low millisecond range to register a string of hair on the ball’s surface, yet magically immune to the pressure wave of someone missing it by 2mm and do all of this over the air in real time across hundreds of meters.

It's an accelerometer. It picks up vibrations and pressure changes from EVERYTHING nearby, even it hitting an insect in the air, then FIFA decides which spike counts as a ‘touch’.

ROBO A CROACIA: Errores en física.

Si nos vamos a poner detallistas con el tema de los sensores de las pelotas, de si hubo un mínimo roce y aplicar el reglamento al milímetro, también tenemos que aplicar física al milímetro.

La pelota Trionda usa tecnología de balón conectado con un sensor de movimiento de 500 Hz que da información al VAR sobre movimiento/contactos del balón. Ese sensor no “ve” una cabeza: mide aceleraciones, rotaciones y patrones de movimiento. Por eso, si la pelota pasa muy cerca de una cabeza, puede haber perturbaciones aerodinámicas, vibraciones o ruido mecánico. En principio, eso puede generar una señal pequeña. Que el algoritmo la clasifique como contacto ya es otra cosa.

Si el sensor muestra una señal típica de impacto —pico brusco, alta frecuencia, cambio instantáneo de rotación o trayectoria, sincronizado con la posición de la cabeza—, entonces la anulación es defendible aunque en TV no se vea. Las cámaras tienen parallax, motion blur, pocos frames comparado con el sensor, y un contacto mínimo puede ser invisible.

Si el sensor solo muestra una oscilación ínfima y no hay cambio coherente de trayectoria, ni deformación, ni imagen compatible, ni firma de impacto, entonces NO se debe anular un gol. Ahí se estaría convirtiendo una herramienta probabilística en un oráculo.

A Croacia le anularon un empate tardío tras una revisión del VAR polémica vinculada a una detección marginal del balón. Una cosa es una señal clara de impacto; otra es un “blip” diminuto.

Sobre los árbitros: no necesitan ser físicos, pero sí deberían tener formación suficiente en limitaciones de medición, la cual OBVIAMENTE NO TIENEN. Un árbitro moderno que usa sensores, semiautomático, tracking 3D y VAR debería entender conceptos básicos: margen de error, falso positivo, calibración, umbral, sincronización temporal y diferencia entre dato bruto e interpretación algorítmica. Si no, termina pasando esto: la tecnología deja de asistir al arbitraje y empieza a reemplazar el juicio crítico.

En conclusión, no se ve contacto y el único argumento es “el sensor detectó un roce ínfimo” que, como ya mencioné, por el gráfico se puede ver que está mas relacionada a diferencias de presión en el aire al pasar cerca de una cabeza que por un toque con la misma (si la hubiera tocado se vería un pico muy alto y brusco en la imagen).
Se está usando tecnología muy avanzada con árbitros que no la saben comprender (ni el propio VAR). Ningún físico diría que ese gráfico muestra un toque.

En una jugada decisiva, la carga de la prueba debería ser altísima. Sensor sí, fe ciega en el sensor, NO.

A word about the so-called snicko graph that “proved” croatia striker matanovic touched the ball.

Darren Cann (referee decisions commentator on the BBC and, unfortunately for him, one of the least convincing men ever to see a microphone) said he was “100% certain” there was a touch that caused pasalic to be offside.

He based that certainty on “snicko” technology as this proved the touch.

This is what referee and VAR used to rule out the goal.

But even if you think snicko is a good idea (I don’t) there’s a massive problem with the snicko graph.

IT’S DOESN’T LINE UP WITH THE PICTURES!

Snicko shows one spike and we’re asked to believe that was the matanovic touch.

But there are 4 or 5 touches on the ball in a few seconds (the cross - matanovic? - portugal defender veiga - croatia’s pasalic - then gvardiol scoring).

They have to show a graph where all five touches (if there are five) are represented and where the graph spikes line up perfectly with the footage.

That would remove all doubt.

The way it was presented makes no sense and looks corrupt to the core.

This is it? A line graph with no context. If a ball that doesn't visibly change spin or direction looks like that how big a signature did it make when it fully boinked off the head of the Portugal defender a second later? How big is the spike when a goalie rips it?

They are going to have to release the data that says 20 touched that ball. There is ZERO evidence of it on that close up. Also how is the Portugal defender heading it not "intentionally playing the ball." Is it not intentional becaue he did it badly? Soccer's weird man.

Some of the composure in big moments comes from experience in the moment of course, but it does kind of seem like some guys have that dog in crunch time or not and the Spurs including their coach, despite Barkley's retraction today, ain't got it.

This Spurs team was so consistently terrible down the stretch it might not even be a young thing. You might have to blow it up. This might be the KD, Westbrook, Harden Thunder.

The Knicks ended up shooting better than the Spurs including 47 to 40 from 3. But that loss is entirely on the coaching staff. Why on earth did they just keep hucking in the second half? They let the lead go from 29 to 15 before they touched the paint again.

Maybe it wasn't possible in that environment to settle a team that young as they coughed up that lead, but Johnson certainly didn't find the words to get it done.
