@BBCr4today@MishalHusain Really sad to see @MishalHusain sign off from the Today programme. She has been excellent and will be a great loss to the BBC.
🏆 We're delighted that ACRC’s CEO @DianaMitlin has been awarded the best paper of 2024 by @RSA_ADP for “The contribution of reform coalitions to inclusion and equity: lessons from urban social movements”.
Very excited to finally see our data intro paper "The Political Settlements Dataset: Power Configurations and Political Blocs in the Global South, 1946-2018," co-authored with @TimKelsall1, published open access in @II_journal. A thread about the dataset. https://t.co/CfaGU86pHC

Day 2 of our Urban Reform Coalitions Conference kicks off with @PASGR_’s Martin Atela, who introduces the #UtafitiSera approach – including its emergence and how it brings actors together to form a community of practice, bridging the gap between research and policy action.
Anyone interested in cities and urbanism should watch Professor @TaibatLawanson's inaugural lecture. I've learned so much from her over the years, and feel honored to be working with her. https://t.co/CCTj2blUIU

The frustrated, furious response above is all mine.
For a more nuanced, less sleep-deprived assessment of key issues at #COP27, please check out the daily insights from @ODI_Global. My brilliant colleagues unpack all the tricky topics above, and more.

Failures at #COP27:
❌ Inability to explicitly confront fossil fuels (indeed, oil & gas welcomed into the room by Egyptian Presidency).
❌ Carbon market loopholes will enable corporate greenwash.
❌ $100 billion commitment remains unmet, primarily due to shortfall from the US.
Successes at #COP27:
✅ Loss & damage fund focused on particularly vulnerable countries.
✅ Demand for MDBs to define a new vision & operational model equal to the climate crisis.
✅ Nuanced debate about responsibility & vulnerability beyond the developed/developing dichotomy.
Few concepts have captured the imagination of the conflict and development community in recent years as powerfully as the idea of a 'political settlement'.
