On Thursday night, my husband and I went to enjoy a show a QPAC (Brisbane Theatre). On our walk there, I was confronted by about 5 teenagers, two of African decent, around 14 to 18 years old.

The younger of them agressively stepped towards me, made stupid “braappp brappp” noises repeatlly and essentially performed in front of his mates at what he thought was a woman walking alone.

My husband, 6’2 veteran, couple steps behind me, sees this behavior, stops, stares and clearly shows I am with him.

The teenagers and the key intimidator immediatly realising he wasn’t harassing a lone woman, changed demeanour instantly.

How many more Australian women that night minding their own business were harrased by this group.

Unprovoked and intimidated.

This is not the Australia I grew up in.

New Zealand First’s “Use It or Lose It” Dairy Policy – Common Sense for Our Country

New Zealand First has put forward a straightforward policy that puts New Zealand first: changes to the Dairy Industry Restructuring Act that give genuine manufacturers access to up to 500 million litres of Fonterra milk a year (ten times the current limit) for a limited period – if they build real value-added dairy factories right here in New Zealand.

No subsidies.

They pay the farm-gate price plus fair collection costs. Farmers and Fonterra get paid properly.

The access is temporary and tapers off after six years so the incentive is clear: use it or lose it.

Invest now, create New Zealand jobs, build New Zealand brands, and sell “New Zealand dairy” to the world – or the opportunity closes.

This is pure common sense and patriotism.

Fonterra was created by Parliament to deliver scale and value for New Zealand. They’ve made their commercial choice and sold the consumer products side.

Fair enough for them.

But New Zealand still has the right – and the responsibility – to make sure our milk delivers the maximum possible jobs, skills, wages and export earnings for our own people.

Right now the rules effectively tell investors “don’t bother building at scale here.”

That has to change.

We want the factories on our soil. We want the processing, the branding, the higher-value products made by Kiwis for the world. Not just shipping out basic commodities while the real value-add happens offshore.

This is nationalism in action: looking after our own productive capacity, our workers, our regions, and our long-term economic strength.

It’s about securing the future of New Zealand industry instead of watching it drift away.

Build the factories.
Build the brands.
Keep the benefits here.

That’s the New Zealand First approach – put New Zealanders first, use plain common sense, and stop apologising for wanting a strong, self-reliant nation.

Support it.
Talk about it.

Let’s get on with building the country we want for our kids.
