The last time I remember Kenyan life being this hard, economically and socially, was in the 90s. I never imagined we'd go through this again in my lifetime. The politics were incoherent as they are now, we were struggling economically, and relationships were suffering in confusion and strange types of conflicts. The only difference between then and now is clarity about where the problem is coming from. In those days, I didn't understand what was happening to us. I thought it was just Africa being Africa. Now I see the political and philosophical problems a little more clearly. The Kenyan state is structurally kaput and needs to be replaced.

The concept of high-end tourism as a source of national revenue needs to be dismantled. It's built on land grabs and high end hotels that cost $3,500 (450,000) a night, paid into bank accounts abroad (not even here). It divides Kenya into two: 1) places where us "natives" struggle to survive and 2) places where wazungu can enjoy wildlife without having to meet an African who is not serving them. To promote this kind of Teddy Roosevelt tourism, the Kenya government actively boasts that colonialism has never left. This kind of tourism is unacceptable in the 21st century.

One hopes our Muslim West African brethren see what is happening in Sudan and finally take the hint that the past 1,000 years of history has been trying to give them.

There is no such thing as an "Ummah". Islamic unity is a myth and a fantasy. The UAE, a Muslim country, is committing a genocide against Black Muslim populations in Sudan, using weapons supplied from Turkey, also a Muslim country.

When push comes to shove, everyone remembers where they are from. The Arabs are Arabs first and foremost. The Turks are Turks first and foremost. You are an African, so you better learn to be an African first and foremost.

Get your head out of your ass and quit using emotional fantasies like the "Ummah" as a psychological crutch to deal with a harsh and unforgiving world. You are a Black African and that is all the world will ever see you as - it doesn't matter how Muslim or Arab-adjacent you are. It doesn't matter whether your great-great-great-great-great grandfather's sister came from Mecca - you are a Black African now.

Stop running away from yourself and accept reality.

I'm reading the history of the Emergency right now, and that is where this narrative started. The British strategy during colonialism was to look for one group, isolate it, turn it into a capitalist group of servants, then tell the rest of the Africans to follow suit. Except that the Mau Mau interrupted that plan. So to fight the Mau Mau, the British switched the formula from most loved to most hated ethnic group, depoliticized the issues, reduced the Mau Mau from a political movement to an ethnic group, suppressed all the participation of other Kenyans in the Mau Mau movement, then demonized the one ethnic group internationally as evil and demonic. When independence became inevitable, the British switched the equation back to the Kikuyu elites it had been preparing at Maralal, and told the elites from other ethnic groups that they always had to negotiate with the Mt Kenya mafia.

That is what has kept Kenya drowning in an obsession with Kikuyus since independence. It's really a European obsession with a market dominant majority that can keep stabilizing Kenya as a capitalist country.

Now this nonsense is getting boring. We can't be on a 75 year old formula for Kenyan politics since 1952. We need to grow up and start new conversations ABOUT THE ECONOMY. Our economic model is not working. It's making the elites from all ethnic groups richer, using the government violence to keep us quiet and poorer. That's what this ethnic game is for. It's funded by the British and the CIA to avoid the economic conversation.
