On this day in history in 1453, Constantinople falls to the Ottoman Turks.
After a two-month-long siege, the city finally fell, marking the end of the Byzantine Empire. The last Byzantine emperor, Constantine XI Palaiologos, was last seen casting off his imperial regalia and joining in hand-to-hand combat after the walls of the city were breached.
“The city has fallen, and I am still alive.” The last words of Emperor Constantine XI Palaiologos before charging at the Ottoman invaders during the fall of Constantinople on May 29, 1453.

We had no Premier League wins in 2026 (13 games), prior to the arrival of Roberto De Zerbi. Relegation looked increasingly inevitable.
Thank you for saving this club from relegation, Roberto, we are eternally indebted to you for that. 🤍🇮🇹
Who would be the American Brutus?
(this may go somewhere)
I'm looking for figures that not just you, but Plutarch himself, would pair with Brutus. Remember, he paired Brutus with Dion of Syracuse - a morally stern philosopher who toppled (but did not kill) a tyrant.
(Whether Brutus was really so morally stern and incorruptible can be debated).
Plutarch was especially interested in parallels of disposition and temperament (though life story parallels matter too, and often coincide with the former).
Also accepted: British Bruti
In 2015 we traveled to Japan with our team and came across the best socks I had ever seen.
Like little knit sweaters for your feet.
We found a small workshop in Tokyo making them the old way.
Vintage machines. Slow production. Every pair finished by hand.
It felt familiar.
The same spirit we try to keep alive here.
We’ve been working together ever since 🇯🇵🤝🏻🇺🇸
