Regional Director for @UNOPS Europe and Central Asia is in Ukraine this week.
First stop on the road was Mykolaiv, where we work with support from @DanishMFA and @novonordisk. Hear from @Tim_Lardner directly - first impressions from the mission!
"Housing is not simply about constructing buildings. It’s about developing communities."
From plans to project implementation – our Regional Director @Tim_Lardner discussed the importance of integrated planning to support sustainable urban transformation at #WUF13 🏠
The World Urban Forum is in full swing!
From talking about recovery readiness for infrastructure & housing in urban areas, to highlighting our work bringing practical solutions to initiatives across Asia, Africa, Europe & beyond …
We’re on the ground at #WUF13 to help shape a more sustainable urban development.
Productive conversations in Berlin with @GermanyDiplo, @BMZ_Bund & @_BMUKN, for Ukraine, Eastern Europe and Central Asia to support stabilisation and local resilience, as well as integrated solutions for social infrastructure needs, climate action, and energy transition.
The Caspian Sea supports millions of people through fisheries, transport & coastal livelihoods – but its future is under growing threat from pollution.
We're working with @theGEF, @WorldBankGroup & the govts of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan & Turkmenistan to support healthier ecosystems for the Caspian & the communities that depend on it 👇

Clearing sea mines is "extremely challenging and very dangerous," says Paul Heslop of @UNMAS. It’s still unclear if mines have been deployed in the Strait of Hormuz amid the ongoing Middle East conflict, but the threat to all vessels is serious.

Terrific to interact with @EIB leaders at the #EIBForum to discuss the impact of the growing collaboration between @UNOPS & EIB.
I had an excellent discussion with VP Karl Nehammer and his team on translating vision and financing into tangible results.
We look forward to strengthening our partnership further in fragile contexts and middle income countries.
Great conversation today at #EIBForum Global Partnerships Panel.
We are very glad for being a partner of choice on the implementation of EU Global Gateway projects, especially on infrastructure.
Sustainable and resilient infrastructure is a sine qua non condition for sustainable development and climate action. While this requires a financing and policy boost, nothing can be done without strengthening the capacity for implementation.
Partnerships across public and private sectors - and putting local communities' needs front and centre - are key to delivering sustainable and resilient development.
With less than 4 years ahead of us to deliver on SDGs, we can’t miss this responsibility.
Let’s get the job done.

@EIB
“It’s just another day of survival.”
These powerful words from my colleague Yana in #Ukraine – spoken from her apartment with very limited power & heating (despite freezing winter temps!) – encapsulate the suffering & harsh reality that Ukrainians across the country continue to endure.
It’s now been 4 years since the full-scale invasion of Ukraine – & the devastation is immense.
People & institutions are beyond drained. Families are utterly exhausted.

Backed by the EU, @UNOPS_UEE repaired a kindergarten and created an underground shelter in Kharkiv Oblast, bringing 153 children one step closer to classroom learning.
In 🇲🇰, colleagues secured a deal with the government to clean up one site of the old OHIS plant in Skopje, a hotspot of legacy pollution.
€12 million in funding and a 3 year timeline: we are are set on resolve the issue.
Congrats to the team, and excited to see this done!
🤝 @UNOPS continues partnership with @VladaMK for the remediation of the OHIS small dumpsite.
The additional €12 million funding provides sufficient resources and time to complete works safely and in line with the highest international environmental and safety standards.🇲🇰🇺🇳
🌐 Addressing what can be done in the Western Balkans to improve governance, cooperation with international finance institutions, and support their green and digital transitions, @Tim_Lardner, Regional Director for Europe and Central Asia @UNOPS, provided a clear example:
❝This week we’ve signed an agreement with the European Union to look at borders in Serbia [...] how we can open but strengthen those borders around Serbia. So all of these relatively small projects [...] help these states move forward.❞

📍 Mykolaiv. Recovery through opportunity.
The war in Ukraine continues to impact small businesses—especially in frontline oblasts like Mykolaiv. But local entrepreneurs remain determined to adapt, grow and contribute.
On 27 November, @UNOPS_UEE and @UNDPUkraine, in partnership with the Mykolaiv Oblast Administration, held a vendor fair to support small and medium-sized enterprises interested in becoming UN suppliers.
Procurement specialists from both agencies guided participants through:
🔹 How to register
🔹 Where to find tenders
🔹 What categories are in demand
🔹 How to strengthen bids
This was more than an information session—it was a step towards localisation, resilience, and recovery.
We thank our partners and all the business owners who joined us. You are key to rebuilding Ukraine.

🇷🇸In Serbia today, speaking at Western Balkans 2030 Conference.
Main topic: regional integration and #EU accession's role in attracting investments.
@UNOPS has proven track record of supporting govts and local communities in the region, and we're ready to take this forward 📈
🚀 Strengthening partnerships for impact!
This week @UNOPS Europe and Central Asia regional teams gathered in #Brussels to discuss how to boost cooperation in support of #EUaccession countries.
Together, we are sharpening our delivery to support countries on their EU path. 🇪🇺✨
