Working to gain a seat at the table, to ensure fair wages and to preserve workers’ rights for the newsroom staff of The Florida Times-Union/@jaxdotcom.
The Florida Times-Union Guild is pleased to announce our members voted 19-0 to approve our first contract. This wouldn’t have been possible without the support of our dedicated journalists, loyal readers and amazing community. Thank you all for helping us along the way. ✊
It is with a heavy heart I share the passing of Russell Harper, a friend & champion for working families. His leadership, wisdom & humor touched many. We’ve lost a pillar of our Democratic family. Rest in peace, Russell…you will be deeply missed. 💙
Some T-U Guild members spent their lunch hour supporting @CWAUnion members in their strike against @ATT's unfair labor practices today on Hendricks Avenue in Jacksonville. ✊ We are sending solidarity to the 17,000 workers on strike and wishing for a fair contract soon!
THE VERDICT IS IN, @law360 and @LexisNexis: We will walk off the job on a ULP strike in September unless management agrees to a fair contract and stops violating the law. Read more below. #verdictisin#Law360Strike
Journalists at the @SunSentinel are forming a union to protect our workers and the South Florida community’s access to quality local journalism. #SunSentinelSolidarity
Now why would a newspaper company want to submit its intellectual property (a reporter's story) to train an AI algorithm but not agree to layoff protections for the journalist who wrote that story.... idk... not sure.... lemme know what you think.... ???
This program began while our bargaining team was at the table trying to finish a contract that would prohibit people being laid off as a result of AI.
The company won't agree to protections against AI, but it will roll out programs that analyze real-life reporters' work. No way.
Two weeks ago, our bargaining unit members were notified we are part of an #AI pilot program launched by @Gannett that auto-generates story highlights. When editors use the feature, the system adds the tagline below at the bottom of the story.
This week, we took a stand.
Our papers’ owner @Gannett fired an editor for saying what every editor in the company knows: The company needs to hire more news staff.

What is... the Times-Union on Jeopardy!?
If you watched the game show tonight, you might've noticed a @jaxdotcom appearance. Here's why.

We are thrilled that the NLRB announced it’s seeking an injunction against the @postgazette. The PG could've avoided this by simply agreeing to dignified terms with us & our striking union siblings @cwaunion & PPPWU at any point in the last 18 months.. https://t.co/seqtrZTzse
WOW! What a day. It was amazing to welcome 18 future journalists from UNF and EWU to @jaxdotcom for the very first College Media Day.
The students had beat sessions from fantastic Jax journalists across mediums and outlets and participated in a mock presser at City Hall.
Today we want to share some love for our striking Guild family in Pittsburgh. We could not be more proud to support them as they continue to refuse to cave to the despicable Blocks. We know they will win this fight! Support them by donating https://t.co/iVY0qdlWP3 @PGHGuild
@Gannett 3/ Take a moment today to look at all the people we’ve lost since 2020 and the beats they covered. Then, help us get this contract done by sending a letter to our bosses here: https://t.co/xb94c6hkaJ

2/ When we lose hundreds of collective years of experience from our newsroom, we can’t serve our communities as well as we want to. That’s why we’re fighting for a fair contract from @Gannett so we can attract and retain talented journalists to do this crucial work.
1/ The Palm Beach Post and Daily News newsrooms have lost more than 45 employees since we unionized in 2020. Many of those folks have not been replaced.
Join us in telling Gannett’s CEO Mike Reed, Gannett Chief Content Officer Kristin Roberts and local Executive Editors: Get serious, and get this contract done.

@NateMonroeTU @BetancourtJack I can say this part because they’re not my employer anymore: by all means shame @Gannett because it’s been nearly two years since I left and the TU still doesn’t have a ft education reporter while the CEO keeps taking raises. TU raised me. That newsroom deserves the world.
