🚨 URGENT: Repeated Harassment and Unlawful Arrest of Students at Isolo Campus 🚨
Good evening Nigerians,
I am bringing urgent public attention to a disturbing and recurring issue affecting students residing in a hostel located in Aregba, Isolo, under Oshodi Local Government. This situation has persisted for far too long and now demands immediate attention from the public and relevant authorities.
On Friday at about 8:15 PM, a group of police officers stormed a snooker spot situated directly in front of a student hostel housing hundreds of students. This location is not hidden or suspicious—it is an open and commonly used area within the same compound where students live. Due to the frequent lack of electricity on campus, students often gather there not just to relax but also to charge their phones and carry out basic daily activities.
During the operation, the officers initially picked up a few individuals who were not students. However, the situation quickly escalated beyond that. The police proceeded further into the hostel environment and arrested about 10 to 12 students who were simply present at the scene.
What makes this incident even more concerning is what followed.
The arrested students were falsely accused of being involved in illegal activities such as smoking, gambling, and even initiation practices. These allegations are completely false. The snooker area is in plain sight, right in front of the hostel, and not any hidden or secret location as claimed.
Furthermore, during the incident, some of the officers allegedly stated that they were acting on instructions from the Oba of Isolo, claiming that they had been told to arrest and “pack” students from the area. This statement raises serious concerns and calls for proper clarification from the appropriate authorities, as it should not be used as justification for unlawful arrests or harassment.
It is important to emphasize that this is not the first time such actions have taken place. Students in this area have repeatedly faced harassment, intimidation, and wrongful arrests. Many now live in fear due to the constant threat of being targeted without any valid reason.
This pattern of behavior is unjust, unacceptable, and harmful to students who are simply trying to pursue their education in a peaceful environment.
We cannot continue to normalize this.
We are calling on the relevant authorities to urgently investigate this matter and put an end to the harassment of innocent students. Specifically, we demand:
✔ A thorough and transparent investigation into the actions of the officers involved
✔ Clarification regarding the alleged directive linked to the Oba of Isolo
✔ Immediate justice and fair treatment for the affected students
✔ An end to the harassment, intimidation, and unlawful targeting of students in Isolo
✔ Concrete measures to ensure students can live and study without fear
Students are not criminals. They deserve safety, dignity, and respect at all times.
We urge the government, human rights organizations, and the general public to take this issue seriously and stand in support of affected students.
Enough is enough.
