From Monday 17 August, NGX is changing how stock prices move on the Nigerian Exchange.
New rules: • Stocks ₦1,000 and above → only 10,000 shares needed to move the price
• ₦500 – ₦999 → 50,000 shares
• Below ₦500 → 100,000 shares
Previously every stock needed 100,000 shares. Now expensive stocks will react more easily to real buying and selling. Better and fairer price discovery.
₦700/$ can give Nigeria a $1 trillion economy on paper. It won’t automatically make Nigerians richer.
If GDP is ₦700tn, that’s $1tn at ₦700/$. At ₦1,400/$, it’s $500bn. Same ₦700tn, different conversion.
I wouldn’t run down our reserves just to chase that headline. Let the naira strengthen because we produce more, export more and bring inflation down.
A $1 trillion economy is impressive. An economy Nigerians can actually feel is better.
Segun Agbaje, the Group CEO of GTCO, gives his investment advice for a young person in Nigeria.
He says you should keep it simple. Invest in Nigerian Stocks(tried and tested companies), real estate and keep cash.
And this is also what he does.
Don't invest in what you don't understand like derivatives.
The briefs will come. The clients will come. The recognition will come. For now, master your craft, show up, and let your work speak louder than your years of practice.
