She commended Spiro for aligning with its commitment to government, to lead in e-mobility and setting up a robust e-mobility plant, charging network and e- mobility human development network of over 4000 young Ugandans.
Impressed by the massive investment by Spiro in Uganda, she announced that the president has encouraged government to explore the adoption of electric mobility solutions in government operations, to support the transition to a cleaner transport.

We have unveiled the “Kola Bata ne Spiro” ICE Bike Exchange Program, an initiative aimed at accelerating the shift from petrol-powered boda bodas to clean electric motorcycles in Kampala.
Through the Kola Bata ne Spiro program, boda boda riders can trade in their existing petrol motorcycles and apply their value as a down payment toward a brand-new Spiro electric bike.
By converting the value of their current bike into equity, the program significantly lowers the financial barrier to entry, enabling riders to transition to electric mobility without the need for upfront cash.
With a plan to deploy 50,000 Spiro electric motorcycles in Kampala by June this year, carbon emissions are projected to reduce by approximately 175,000 tons annually.
Kampala is estimated to have more than 200,000 petrol-powered boda bodas, which form the backbone of the city’s transport system but also contribute significantly to urban emissions.
A typical petrol bike emits about 3.5 tons of carbon dioxide (CO₂) annually, meaning the sector collectively generates approximately 700,000 tons of CO₂ each year.
