@alexanderao This is true in general, and holds for most of the cities and towns in Boston's orbit. But with the area around Porter Square and Inman Square specifically, the line between Cambridge and Somerville is practically invisible in a way that doesn't really exist anywhere else in MA.
@FreyChristopher Exactly, people either don’t know or have forgotten how most humanities majors fulfill their science reqs (if they even exist). A popular one at my school was “flowers of the Alps.” Surely history of science w/Aristotle, Archimedes, Newton, & Linnaeus is more in-depth than that.
@ismatthewmcg@davidpdeavel Presumably, if you’re going to a school like that, you’ve already closed that door. And this is true of most humanities majors, too. The choices you make freshman year would determine that in most colleges; for engineering, you’d need to make that choice before you matriculate.
@SohrabAhmari I went to a highly ranked secular college where many students fulfilled their science requirement by taking a class called Flowers of the Alps on their semester abroad. Taking an intense course on the outdated foundational texts of science is clearly superior to that.
@SohrabAhmari If this were a high school, I would be concerned about that science curriculum. But for a humanities focused college, I’m not. If you go there, you’re clearly not someone with a future in STEM, and that’s a decision you made. STEM for humanities majors isn’t great at many schools
The singer of the Brazilian national anthem for this game is mononymously named Péricles, and I’m here for it.
We are seriously lagging behind Latin America in naming children after classical Athenian politicians.
Will these songs finally get the Swifties to admit that she hasn't been a good songwriter for over a decade, with the pandemic annus mirabilis being the exception that proves the rule?
@robbertleusink@jdflynn The largest Catholic church in the US (the Basilica in DC) holds 3500. This gave 10 times as many people an opportunity to attend. And people flying in from all over the country aren't going to care about a $16 entry fee
@mirijulip Also even a lot of the larger suburbs have places with the small town feel, you just have to get away from the two lane roads with strip malls.
@TheRealErudi In most states, this is true, but in MA the burden is on the prosecution to prove that the defendant was not insane once the insanity defense is brought. It’s why a lot of our NGRI trials end in a hung jury (3 years ago, it happened w someone who killed a cop in a shootout)
