#Nadal is really emptying himself out. Every match. We are fortunate to witness this. I do hope that this year cements his legacy as the greatest ever. Can't see him lasting beyond this year at this incredible level. Superb game by #goffin.

@AshutoshPatki2@RSF_inter@NSoJ_Bangalore Government performance is not gauged by the way the economy is doing alone. It is also judged on whether the citizens feel empowered to give full expression to their talents. The sum total of our differences is what unites us, and move us forward. That is what we must fight for.
@AshutoshPatki2@RSF_inter@NSoJ_Bangalore On the contrary, having a controlled media may be effective in propping up totalitarian regimes. History tells us that while democracy is not perfect, it is the best way to give expression to the will of the people. If we believe in democracy, we need to have free press.
@AshutoshPatki2@RSF_inter@NSoJ_Bangalore Finally, it is important for journalists to recognize deep rooted biases they may have unknowingly acquired. To be effective, journalists should tell both sides of the story. But rather all sides of the story. They should also be unafraid to pick the side of truth.
@AshutoshPatki2@RSF_inter At @NSoJ_Bangalore, we train our students to recognize the tremendous responsibilities they have to support democracy. We teach them to care about justice, and care about truth. Journalists need to have compassion but also fearless in their pursuit of the truth.
@AshutoshPatki2@RSF_inter This requires the media to balance their duty to inform with their duty to not cause harm. Basically, it requires journalists to be responsible in verifying the matter before responsible reporting in a way that informs the public without prejudicing the legal process.
@AshutoshPatki2@RSF_inter The media on the other hand does not have to carry the burden of proof before reporting. This is important - just because the courts cannot convict does not mean that the public does not have a right to know what may have really happened.
@AshutoshPatki2@RSF_inter At the same time, the government and courts should recognize the special role that the Press have in preserving democracy and democratic institutions. We also need to work towards reforming laws such as the UAPA and sedition laws, which are regularly used to silence the press.
@AshutoshPatki2@RSF_inter Given the explosion of social media and access to the internet, I am not sure there can be a clear definition of what constitutes the "press" anymore. Existing laws should be strengthened to ensure that journalists are not restricted from doing their job.
@AshutoshPatki2@RSF_inter (iv) continuing harassment of reporters in Kashmir by police and armed forces.
WIth 4 journalists killed in 2020, Reporters Sans Frontiers have classified India as one of the world's most dangerous countries for journalists to do their job properly.
@AshutoshPatki2@RSF_inter (iii) the pandemic situation was also used by the government to control news coverage that showed a different reality to the official position
Heartwarming to see this. We need each other. Whether we are individuals, organizations or nations.
Atmanirbhar leads to failure and death. Literally and metaphorically.
We need each other.
