If you want to start investing in stocks, this post contains a step-by-step guide on how to get started.
Let me break it down for you using Bamboo, which is the platform I personally use.
Bamboo allows you to buy both Nigerian stocks listed on the NGX and foreign stocks like Tesla, Apple and Amazon, all from your phone without leaving Nigeria.
Here is how to get started:
- Step 1: Download the Bamboo app from Google Play Store or App Store.
- Step 2: Create your account. You will need your BVN, a government issued ID and your bank details. Verification is straightforward and usually done within minutes.
- Step 3: Fund your account. You can fund in naira directly from your Nigerian bank account. Bamboo handles the conversion automatically for foreign stocks.
- Step 4: Once your account is funded, use the search bar to find any stock you want to buy. Search "Zenith Bank" for Nigerian stocks or "Tesla" for foreign stocks.
- Step 5: Select the stock, enter the amount you want to invest and confirm your purchase. You do not need to buy a full share. Bamboo allows fractional investing meaning you can buy a portion of an expensive stock like Amazon with whatever amount you have.
- Step 6: Sit back and monitor your portfolio. You can track your stocks in real time from the app.
Important: Do your research before buying any stock. Do not buy a stock just because someone else is buying it. Understand what the company does and why you believe in it long term.
Bamboo also supports dividend payments meaning if the stocks you hold pay dividends, you receive your share directly. You can choose to withdraw or reinvest.
Start small. Learn the market. Then grow your portfolio gradually.
Above all, love God.

If you want to start your mutual funds investment journey on PalmPay, here is a step by step guide.
Most people know PalmPay only for sending and receiving money. But there is a wealth building feature on the app that most people are sleeping on.
Here is how to get started:
- Step 1: Download the PalmPay app from Google Play Store or App Store if you don't have it already. Create your account and complete your verification. It is as easy as any social media signup.
- Step 2: Once you are on the home page, look at the bottom of your screen. You will see a tab labelled "Wealth" right at the centre. Tap on it.
- Step 3: You will see an option for "Mutual Funds". Tap on it.
- Step 4: You will be shown a list of fund options. Choose the first option which is ARM Money Market Fund. It is currently offering 16.8% per annum. Low risk, steady returns and your capital is protected.
- Step 5: Choose your investment amount, set your frequency to monthly and automate it. Let the app do the rest.
That is it. Your money starts compounding from day one.
PalmPay is great for beginners because everything is in one place. You can send money, save and invest all from the same app.
Start, automate and leave it alone.
Above all, love God.
For those who want to start investing in mutual funds on Stanbic IBTC, here is a step by step guide.
Stanbic IBTC is one of Nigeria's most trusted and institutionally backed investment platforms. It is SEC registered and Fitch rated AAA, which is the highest possible safety rating. Your money is in serious hands.
They offer several mutual fund options but for beginners I recommend the Stanbic IBTC Money Market Fund. It is low risk, your capital is preserved and it currently offers 15% per annum. That is significantly better than any regular savings account.
Here is how to get started:
- Step 1: Download the Stanbic IBTC mobile app from Google Play Store or App Store, or visit stanbicibtcassetmanagement. com on your browser.
- Step 2: Create your account. You will need a government issued ID such as your National ID, Driver's License, International Passport or Voter's Card.
- Step 3: Choose the Money Market Fund as your preferred fund. It invests 100% in high quality short term securities like Treasury Bills and Commercial Papers.
- Step 4: Make your first deposit. The minimum initial investment is 5,000 naira. After that, you can top up in multiples of 1,000 naira anytime.
- Step 5: Set up automatic top ups so your investment grows consistently every month without you having to remember.
Important note: There is a 30 day minimum holding period (There's a penalty for early withdrawal). After 30 days, you can redeem online up to 5 million naira daily and proceeds are transferred to your bank within 2 working days.
Alternatively, if you prefer walking into a branch, you can visit any Stanbic IBTC branch nationwide, collect a subscription form, fill it and submit with your ID. That is it.
The same pattern applies here as with every platform I have recommended. Start, automate and leave it alone.
Above all, love God.
Here are heavy questions you should ask your girlfriend:
1. If your family doesn’t approve of me, will you still choose me?
2. What is your biggest fear about our relationship?
3. What is one thing I did for you that you will never forget?
4. If we ever face some difficulties in the future, what is that one thing that will stop you from giving up on us?
5. If you have one wish for us, what would that be?
6. What has changed in your life since we met?

REMEMBERING MY LATE DAD’S FUNERAL AND THE IMPORTANCE OF HAVING MONEY
Today makes it exactly one year and five days since my late dad was buried.
Making your own money is a very good thing. It saves you from unnecessary delays, arguments, traditional expectations, and the complications that often come with depending on people financially.
When my dad died last year, I invited his siblings and told them we had to bury him the following week.
They disagreed. They said it was too sudden and that they needed time to plan, contribute money, and make arrangements.
I told them that if money was the reason for the delay, then I did not want anyone to contribute anything.
I asked them to go back, prepare a full list of everything needed for the burial, and bring me the total budget.
When they returned with the list, I told them again that none of them should contribute. They should simply tell me who to transfer the money to so preparations could begin the next morning.
They were shocked.
They asked me to send the money to my uncle, my dad’s younger brother, and I did.
I also told them not to buy any meat.
I called my big brother and business partner, Charles Ogbu, and said, “Please bring me the biggest male cow at Ohanaeze Farm.”
The next morning, he brought the cow, and I handed it over to my uncle.
They started discussing how they would kill it, share it, and handle everything else.
I simply told them, “Handle it.”
Then I went back upstairs to continue mourning my dad.
I paid the caterers and told the family not to worry about cooking.
On July 18, we buried my dad according to Igbo tradition.
Many people who attended the funeral gave me money as the first son after I hosted them in my home.
That night, I gathered all the money in bundles and took it to my stepmother’s side of the compound. I asked her to keep it.
She shouted and said the money belonged to me as the first son, especially considering everything I had spent. She also explained that people had already given her some money separately.
I told her, “No. I do not want it. Please keep everything.”
Later, my younger brother told me how some families, especially stepchildren and their father’s wife, sometimes fight over the money received during funerals.
That same day, I told everyone that the burial would officially end and the compound would be cleared by 5 p.m.
By 4:30 p.m., the cleaners had cleaned everywhere. You could hardly tell that a funeral had taken place there.
Today, I remembered the entire experience, and it reminded me again why it is important to have money.
Money may not remove the pain of losing someone you love, but it can remove unnecessary stress, delays, arguments, and humiliation during one of the most difficult moments of your life.
The video attached was taken the next morning.
My uncles brought some of the goat meat from the burial to my house, and we all sat together to eat, laugh, and make merry.
Looking back today, I am simply grateful that I was able to give my dad the peaceful and dignified farewell I believed he deserved.
HERE IS THE DAY PETER OBI WON THE HEART OF NIGERIANS!!! We don't need a vicar to know that this man is the type of leader we need to rescue Nigeria from the mess of APC. This video will forever be in my archive. Retweet massively to refresh the memories of the Jagabandits.
