New paper out on value-based prioritization in visual WM. We used hDDM to account for speed/accuracy tradeoffs and isolate memory benefits from perceptual/motor benefits.

Attention Early-career Working memory researchers! It's 3 more days until WMS abstract submission deadline (May 31st).
If you have cool WM research that you want to share to the vibrant community of WM researchers, please submit your abstract (https://t.co/mhO2vi9Egq)
Now out in Current Opinion in Neurobiology! We propose that biases in perception & memory emerge naturally from an adaptive, hierarchical human learning system. w/ @timothyfbrady + Twitterless et al.

With @monicarosenb, we showed that individual diffs in LTM encoding is uniquely predicted by inter-electrode correlations even controlling for working memory abilities. This suggests that WM & LTM encoding are separate abilities coded by different neural signatures! 1/2
Excited to share our new paper on how distraction affects memory retrieval.
Using a continuous report paradigm, we show that distraction reduces whether memories are accessed but not how precisely they are represented.

Effects of TMS on the Decoding and Electrophysiology of Priority in Working Memory https://t.co/h7afA8jRAE
More evidence for a (not-inhibitory) role for oscillatory dynamics in the low beta band for the encoding of priority in WM
Last chance to apply for our virtual summer workshop on R Programming for Psychology and Neuroscience. Funded by NSF, this FREE workshop provides direct training in using R to analyze data. Open to students from any university. Apps due May 15!

We are recruiting!
My lab at the University of Haifa is looking for new team members to join our research on the links between sensory perception (focus on #smell and human #olfaction) and human memory.
Please help me spread the word

New paper out 🧠 We synthesize findings from aging, ADHD, dyslexia & OCD and propose that event segmentation emerges from the interaction of attention, working memory, and schemas/contextual modulation https://t.co/H9DV7CZFrl
Our new review with Berna Güler (@brnglr93) is out!
We ask a basic but under-specified question: What shapes the segmented nature of episodic memories?

Our next (NSF-funded) OPAM workshop will feature Dr Sarah Merrill (University of Massachusetts, Lowell) presenting on NSF GRFP and Fellowship Applications. Please join us for the workshop on May 7th at 1pm EST). Zoom link available here: https://t.co/9NenhXCSbc
Janna W. Wennberg & John T. Serences from the University of California, San Diego find that similarity-driven compression during encoding supports biased but more precise working memory.

New preprint! We mapped out how ‘diffuse’ predictions affect neural representations. We show predictions reshape the geometric layout of neural representations by compressing the representational spread and stabilize the neural code by reducing the neural variance during encoding
We are excited to announce that we will host WMS2026 (Tentative dates: July 14th-17th)!
We are currently looking for a postdoc to join the WMS2026 organizer team. If interested, please submit your application using the link below (Deadline: March 29th)
