Have weather forecasts seemed less accurate lately? There's a major contributing factor: nearly half the morning weather balloons in the Lower 48 are "missing."
This is an ongoing crisis that is degrading critical severe weather forecasts that we all rely on. It's having real, tangible impacts on degrading forecast quality.
If you work in transportation, agriculture or commerce, this should matter to you.
Regardless of the causes, this negatively affects people of ALL political backgrounds. Weather affects everyone. And it's impacting ALL of us negatively.
We can't look at weather balloon data that doesn't exist. We can't pump nonexistent data into models. We can't rely as heavily on models that don't "know" what's happening above our heads.
This is especially concerning for severe weather forecasts. We can't go 18 hours without ascertaining how the atmosphere is layered, how much storm fuel has built up and if severe thunderstorms are going to erupt. The Storm Prediction Center has even acknowledged forecasting frustrations in at least one public bulletin.
As an atmospheric scientist myself, I can say firsthand – the forecasts I'm able to offer you are less accurate than they would otherwise be. I'm not able to predict severe weather with the confidence I normally would. That is extremely concerning.
The United States is "supposed" to launch balloons at 0Z and 12Z ideally – a.k.a. around 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Eastern time. That's not happening. Many sites, due to staffing issues stemming from broader political and organizational issues, have pushed to 18Z, or early afternoon. That's not helpful for morning severe weather forecasts. In other words, you get less lead time. Less advanced notice. Quicker ramp-ups and ramp-downs to the forecast.
We're not able to get jet stream, temperature, moisture or wind profiles of the atmosphere each morning like we otherwise would.
Moreover, the World Meteorological Organization encourages 12Z soundings; that data is shared via the Global Observing System (GOS) under the World Weather Watch (WWW). That's not happening.
One thing I've seen people misunderstand: this isn't just a problem for the areas missing balloon launches. Those observations help initialize the forecast models, and any missing data can degrade forecasts far downstream as the model evolves. If you're in Ohio, you should care just as much about a missed launch in Montana as someone who lives there.
LISTEN: Jacob Rockwell was fined for running a red light in Pensacola, Florida.
Only thing is Jacob wasn’t in Florida, he was in Alabama.
He sounded off at a local city meeting recently and his concerns go beyond just one citation.
IT'S REAL BAD.
The British government just came with a new bill that could throw parents 5 years in jail if they try to stop their child from wanting to change gender.
I had a look at what the new "Conversion Practices Bill" says.
And it's WAY WORSE than you think.
Any "conduct" from a parent toward their child that causes the child to "believe that they have or do not have" a "particular" identity will be in violation of what they call "conversion practice".
In other words, if the parents tell their child that they are either male or female and the parent is using what they call "coercive words" which causes what they define as "serious alarm" to the child that has a "substantial adverse effect" on the child's day to day activities, this could then be enough to put a parent 5 years in prison.
PLUS an UNLIMITED FINE.
Years in prison and a limitless fine, where do they even come up with this?
You just know that the activists will use this law to persecute and throw any parent in prison who is in opposition of woke gender ideology.
The state wants to take away parenting rights from the parents and have full control over children.
This comes just days after Britain restarted trials where they will give puberty blockers to children as young as 11.
Britain is turning into a truly evil country at this point.
This goes against all human rights.
🚨 A man was reportedly arrested after being caught cutting into the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool and pulling up large pieces of the blue coating.
Taking tools to a national monument and ripping pieces out to make a statement isn't activism—it's vandalism.
The Lincoln Memorial isn't a prop for social media. It's a historic landmark visited by millions of Americans every year.

HERE WHAT'S ACTUALLY HAPPENING WITH IRAN.
There is NO DEAL.
There is simply a MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING.
The media keeps falsely calling this a deal.
This MoU agrees to two things: The Strait of Hormuz will be open for commercial traffic. The cease fire will resume while the U.S. and the Iran Regime restart talks.
Everything else in the MoU is fluff and meaningless.
I remember very well when President Reagan seemed to be getting along much too well with the leader of the Soviet Union at that time Mikhail Gorbachev.
Many conservatives (including me) were very upset with Reagan for signing the 1987 Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty, which was the first first arms control agreement to actually eliminate an entire class of nuclear weapons rather than just limit them.
We did not believe the Soviet Union could be trusted.
Reagan said he did not believe in trust either. "Trust, but verify," he said.
However, Reagan rejected the Soviet demand that the United States abandon our quest for an anti-missile shield, which was called the Strategic Defense Initiative at that time, what liberals derisively labeled "Star Wars," and what we call the "Iron Dome" today.
The Soviet Communist system could not keep up with the United States economically. The Soviets knew that the United States ultimately would be able to build an anti-missile shield to render their ICBM's obsolete.
The Soviet Union collapsed a few years later.
Something similar could be happening with Iran. We don't have the information Trump has.
Remember, Trump has sunk Iran's entire Navy, destroyed its air force, and has demonstrated that Iran's missiles and drones are ineffective.
Trump has inflicted upwards of a trillion dollars in damage to the Iran Regime.
He has killed off two sets of Iran's leaders. We're now on the third set.
Trump says these are much more reasonable people than the first two sets of leaders who he killed off.
Trump says that if he's not happy with progress of the talks, he'll start "shooting them again" and "dropping bombs on their foreheads again" and he'll keep killing off layer after layer of leaders until Iran had leaders he likes.
He says we've already had "Regime change." We have two Regime changes now. We can have many more.
Trump says "I am the boss."
Obviously, Iran has to abandon its quest to acquire nuclear weapons.
It has to stop funding terror organizations, such as Hamas, Hezbollah, the Houthis, etc.
And Iran has to stop attacking its neighbors.
It's very possible Trump is right.
More reasonable people might be at the helm in Iran now. The Iran military has been shown to be a paper tiger -- easily dealt with.
We only have 10% of our Navy in the Strait. We could bring much more military force to bear.
Iran attacked 10 of its Arab neighbors during this conflict for no reason whatsoever. So Iran is absolutely detested by the Arab world.
After this demonstration of Iran's impotence, Iran's neighbors no longer fear this Regime.
It would take decades for the Regime to build back on its own, if they ever could.
The Strait of Hormuz will become less important over time. We only get 1-2% of our oil from the Strait.
Oil pipelines are being added to circumvent the Strait.
Iran might be ready to enter the civilized world.
If not, Trump will just start dropping bombs on their foreheads again, probably after the Midterm Elections.
If this were Obama or Biden negotiating this deal, I would not trust it for a second.
But I trust Trump on this.
First, Trump had to give Iran a glimpse of what Trump can do to them if Iran does not sign the deal he wants them to sign.
He had to show Iran he's not "F'ing around."
This is effective deal making. It's called "The Art of the Deal."
If Trump does have to go back to dropping bombs on Iran's foreheads again, he'll wait until after the Midterms to do this.
This gives us time to see if this third crop of Iran leaders really is different from the first two groups Trump got rid of.
Now, there's a lot of concern about the so-called $300 BILLION investment fund mentioned in the MoU for the "rehabilitation and economic development of the Islamic Republic of Iran."
First, this would not involve any U.S. money. It would only be permitted waaaay down the road if Iran complies with all elements of the deal an enters the civilized world, similar to Japan after WW2.
This would be a potential investment fund involving the Gulf states. We would not block such a fund if Iran complies with all elements of the agreement and if Iran becomes a civilized country. And most or all of this fund would be private investment.
Trump has made it clear that NOT ONE PENNY of U.S. taxpayer money will go into this theoretical fund in the distant future.
Trump is using the carrot-and-stick approach.
He's painting a picture for Iran that it can have one of two futures. It can enter the civilized world and become a prosperous country. Or we can bomb them into the Stone Age in a few hours -- starting with "Bridges and Power Plants Day."
Their choice.
They now know Trump is serious.
This is called "Peace Through Strength."
This SHOULD HAVE been Wemby’s 4th flagrant foul…but a no call instead. Would have resulted in a 1 game suspension for Wemby.
This is what we mean when we call Wemby the “golden boy”
I don’t want anyone telling me that Wemby is the “virtuous” player ever again. Y’all incorrectly made the Thunder the enemy. They try to sell calls. Not injure other players. Let’s not forget the stomp attempt from the other night.
