I just checked his profile… this guy works in the field. That’s the most upsetting part. This is like if a few decades ago a guy at IBM was taking out op-eds to ask who was going to feed the little elves that carry the bits around the processor, and somehow these people that know *nothing* about the technology they’re working on (or at least pretend not to) remain employed.

I have heard it said that some large predators need to be put down after they kill a person because they become incredibly dangerous to be around. Keepers etc. like, maybe the tiger didn’t realize before now we’re about as fragile as a balloon.

But otherwise I can’t think of a good reason and I’m not a zookeeper so if that’s nonsense I won’t argue the point.

Nah. That’s ridiculous. One, the idea that no one could possibly predict a problem with the prompt “generate and perform tasks on random websites.” may cause problems and probably shouldn’t be done on the public internet is too dumb to use a computer.

Two, this is like if a defense attorney argued that his client shouldn’t be responsible for the rounds he fired because he had no knowledge of the ballistics required to predict the flight path of his rounds. Barometric pressure? Temperature? Wind speed? Movement of the people down range?
